...Seems only us Aussie lads noticed this one....

ANZ Bank Limited is a very major financial institution....$335 Billion in Assets....$10.15 Billion in operating revenue...$3.69 Billion in net profit in 2006....Third largest bank in Australia....Largest bank in New Zealand...

This development is very big news for .mobi in the financial world, folks...

PS...National Australia Bank Limited...even bigger....the largest financial institution & bank in Australia - with operations throughout Asia, New Zealand and the UK since the 1980's - will also launch its mobile banking in the near future, I hear (more later).

DT, this is huge news! ANZ is all over Australia, folks! I use to live right next to the ANZ bank building in Sydney (Martin Place).

Where did you hear this, from an inside source? Because I read an article in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday that mentioned a wave of mobile banking offerings coming from the Big 4 Aussie banks but, much to my disappointment, it mentioned a lot of SMS banking and not any .mobi's.

We need to get the word out. SMS banking is so last century, now that the Aussie banks are launching mobile banking initiatives they need to be made aware of .mobi (and BofA.mobi) so they can get with the times!

as i stated in earlier threads all the major banks here have their .mobi's
    nab.mobi- National Australia Bank-not active
    anz.mobi
    commbank.mobi-commonwealth bank-not active
    westpac.mobi-not active

the bank of queensland has: boq.mobi-again not active
Hopefully the other major Australian banks will get on board, save more money and activate mobile banking!

Actually, the date of the impending launch (ANZ.mobi) is on February 11, not the 16th...

There are two parts to the service:

    (i) TXT Banking uses SMS to deliver a customer's account balance(s) and the last five transactions

(ii) M-Banking will enable the transfer of money between a customer's accounts, or to other bank accounts in Australia....I also understand that a payment mechanism for goods will be available, too (ie via credit card, PayPal etc) - and other genuinely useful features.

Andres...whilst it looks like the ANZ mobile offering will use SMS (for certain things) - it seems that there'll be true & full online transaction capability for fairly sophisticated financial services through this mobile M-Banking portal.....Quite close to PC-scale in service scope, in fact.

    This is very exciting....

I did read this also, it is quite a big step for the bank to take, it goes into a bit of detail!
How great to be able to transact on your mobile in the middle of no-where, and for a bank to use .mobi is truely a great thing!

This is great news, too, photoman...

...I hear that NAB (National Australia Bank) will be next cab off the rank with a .mobi launch....

Anz.mobi still works when doing online banking. Some time ago they actually wanted to abandon mobile banking in a letter I received in the mail. After its supposed cut off date (which they said it would no longer work) I still find myself using it- go figure!

Can anyone answer this for me:-why would banks want you to download app software, if you can simply type it in to a phone web browser?
