Excellent information. Rep to both of you. Also glad to see that dev.mobi is getting bigger and better...there is no stopping for this train now.
By the way, I suggested to Benflippin to start a unique Joomla thread, to have all this important information centralized, perhaps with a sticky somewhere? Joomla is important enough and is here to stay. I have used it before and am sure many more of us here will be using it. What do you think Scandi?

Good idea Javier, we've now got a new CMS sub forum.

    hi ya all gang!
well let me say im certainly pleased with the joomla update. this is a page i put together a few months ago using joomla ver 1 and the xe_mobile template http://debuts.mobi this scored 4/4 at ready.mobi but it still used tables and pretty much rendered it useless for older phones. The fact that it was ISO character encoded pretty much put this whole joomla idea on the backburner
the new version 1.5 uses <div class= in other words css to place the tables, so that problem is solved. the other big problem with version 1 was the character encoding. It supported only ISO because of the file sizes in all different ISO character sets is 1 byte thus it supported everything but UTF-8. well now in version 1.5 the installer checks for the version of MySQL – if it is version 4.1.2 and up, then UTF-8 is used. if your database is encoded in a different character set .. joomla will run a script to automatically encode your data to UTF-8. That means you get multiple language support using 1 single character set.
all in all this is an awesome upgrade !! welcome joomla into the mobile internet era

    Cheers

I have a question for the Joomla pros.

Do you construct a site before you load it to your host?

Really want to play with the Joomla thing.

I have done one site in it and I like the flexibility.

    Hello all out there!

First I want to mention I didn't try Joomla (nr 1 CMS at the moment I think?) before, and I certainly not tried the mobile templates

I've been using drupal (drupal.org) for a site I must update weekly, not mobile friendly, but I've been following progressions about mobile templates and possibilities with drupal (very flexible CMS/platform !! )

    links:

    .mobi template for drupal: http://drupal.org/project/mobi

example where it's used: http://www.endandit.mobi/ (all the possibilities are drupal based)

hope you had a nice read!

I use drupal for the majority of my mobile sites.

I do not know a lot about developing sites or coding. Actually I know very little and I have found drupal a breeze.

You only need a mobile theme and drupal does the rest.

I have these sites made with drupal

    http://canines.mobi includes a photo album

    http://muso.mobi

    http://artcritic.mobi

    http://inb.mobi

    http://poms.mobi includes a photo album

    http://dees.mobi

    http://ozy.mobi

    Adult sites with drupal

    http://stuffed.mobi
http://phuck.mobi I have added a topsites to this one.
    http://girlies.mobi
    http://hiz.mobi
    http://****ups.mobi

and another 4 drupal adult sites. I have found that the drupal adult sites seem to get more traffic from google and yahoo.

before using Drupal for adult sites I was modifying the sexgoesmobile template to make sites like
    http://bosoms.mobi
    http://dildoes.mobi
    http://bods.mobi

I now have close to 30 developed mobi's & I put over 20 mini page holders on my LLL mobi's e.g. htz.mobi I have paid for 6 to be developed and done the rest myself and I know very little about web development.Always trying to learn more.

Okay, I gotta figure out the RSS thing. Any pointers?

I have the feeds already but don't know how to make them work.

As well as the adsense and admob stuff.

Yeah, I can look in my books and online but this is a hell of alot more productive and fun.

    here's another:

    http://mobioptic.com/tackled/

I can knock these out in no time once I get the hang of it.

rss there are many to choose from at joomla.org under the extension tab...

I have graphics already done by the hundreds. I already had plans for developing all of these. Now that I can get a hand on a system I know, it should all fall into place.

It my day of reckoning...with the mobiphobics.

    Thanks for the link

Psst...I'm not really a nerd or geek so the stuff you said "(upload to server threw your mob upload....dont forget to publish it...then add your php code to it...you can make copies of this so you can have more then one ad or php code running...)" went WHOOSH! But I might be able to figure it out soon.

I am having a blast with this. I was getting ready to visit joomla.org.

Have you put any indexing apps on your mobile sites?

    Hi Namelot,

That's some real nice sites you have there! Great work!

I'm considering using Drupal for developing a domain, but at the moment I'm trying to find out how hard it's making a Drupal created site mobile. I've found a tutorial on Mobiforge.com for making Drupal mobile but it seems to involve tweaking in PHP and being a somewhat experienced PHP programmer. Namelot, did you yourself make your Drupal sites mobile? If so, how hard was it in terms of programming knowledge?

Thanks in advance for your reply, I appreciate it.
    Best regards,
    Jonas

    Jonas,

You only need to make a mobile template. There is a mobile template available for download on the drupal.org site.
Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

Thanks Namelot for the quick reply, appreciate it.

Just to check I've understood correctly. As soon as I have finished my site with Drupal, I could without being a php-techie install a mobile template to have the site with all it's functionalities work on a mobile phone?

I will certainly keep you and everyone else informed of my progress.

    Thanks once again.
    Best regards,
    Jonas

    Jonas,

You install Drupal. Then install a mobile theme. There is no need to be a php-techie.
I know very little, well knew very little when I started. I have picked up a tiny bit from working with drupal.
