They already have a transcoder in place. They can resize any site for mobile viewing. So most probably such would not happen.

    Hi there Morse

so is there any way for people searching on Google to request only content that has been built especially for mobile phones?

When I search on my Android on www . google.com/m for "Wellington Web Design" the top listing is a site www . springload.co.nz. This isn't "Transcoded" to a mobile friendly format. It's just their regular website. Or am I misunderstanding transcoding?

    Thanks Scoopy

Read Google Mobile Search , I had written it long time back. It would be able to answer most of your questions. Btw, trans-coding is not a proper word to describe what Google does, I am sorry that I used it in a wrong manner. Google takes web pages, re-sizes them, removes useless content like flash, JavaScript and presents the site in the best manner which can be easily navigated.

    Default Google Mobile Search

For small businesses, Google's new mobile search advertising features can increase the ROI of your ads by targeting local customers. Using your paid search dollars to bring in those clients is next, and Google is making it much easier for small businesses. To get started with mobile search engine ads, optimizing your company website for smartphones is the first step. your business is closer than a competitor across town to the location of someone searching your market from their smartphone, this makes it more likely that you will rank above them in their mobile search. This is a feature both companies and searchers can appreciate.
