How updating works in mobile apps?

Just a quick question. I have no idea about mobile apps and I was wondering how they are updated?

For example, a website has a mobile app for its visitors. The visitor downloads that app on his mobile device. Then if the website owner updates the app, is this reflected to the user automatically or will they need to do something in order to see the updated version?

You will know if there is an update for that app when you check your app store app in your mobile. What you need to do is update it. If your app is from Cydia, then you can also check in Cydia the automatic updater for apps.
