Default New Mobile Version of Mobility

    Hi Folks,

I just updated to vB 4.1.2 and it (finally) comes with a new built-in mobile version.

It definitely looks sleeker than the previous Mod I was using, but it runs quite slow on my iPhone. It didn't even have a "New Posts" button, so I had to create one and add it to the top.

Anyway, please play around with it. This is vBulletin's first attempt at making a mobile version of their forum, so I think it's still very much a work-in-progress. However, it should prove to be more secure, useful, and feature-rich than a third-party Mod.

Regardless, if it is too slow for everyone else, I can easily switch back to the previous mobile version until vBulletin gets it "right".

    Let me know!

    Thanks.

How does a mobile user return to the mobile version if they click to view the full site?

They don't seem to have a simple button/link built-in to return to the Mobile version. I'll look into adding it.

In the meantime, you can scroll down to the bottom-left of mobility and change your style via the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can click here: http://mobility.mobi/?styleid=19

If you are able to add it, I'd suggest it be placed at the top so a mobile user doesn't have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the homepage, that's a loooong scroll.

Glad to see the dartho style is still available, so far I like it better but no doubt more improvements are coming for the other one.

I find it too slow to be useful on my Android phone, so for now I think I'll stick to my PC.

If they had added a non-JavaScript based chatbox, it would have been more welcomed. Guess its still a big potential for developers to make use of.

I like being able to switch to full site to see chatbox on my iPhone, so that's definitely a welcome addition. The menu could be improved a bit since it's hard to find "new posts" coming out of reading pm's. Thanks for trying it out.

The new built-in mobile detection should still allow users to switch between the mobile version and the Desktop version regardless of which mobile version we use. As for the mobile version, I'm leaning towards switching back to the dartho Mod style.

OK, I've switched the mobile version back to the dartho Mod style we had before.

I've added a link at the bottom of that style that switches to the Full Site (which the built-in mobile detection in vB now allows).

I've also added a link at the top left of the full version of Mobility that switches to the mobile version.

So now you can easily switch back and forth between the two.

Web designers are concentrating on mobile versions of their websites due to the rapid growth of people using the internet on their mobile phones. The time is near when we will use the mobile phones for almost everything and the desktop PCs will be the relics of the past.

    Andres,

Am loving the new old version, simple switching makes answering via phone easy yet still gives the chatbox.

    Fab!
