    Default NYPD.mobi

I have been watching this name for 4 years and finally its goes somewhere, they just need to have a mobile friendly site and a bit of advertising. I have just fired an email off to suggest they make a mobile friendly site.

On my Android phone it redirects to http://nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/home/home.shtml. It looks terrible on the phone and convinces me even more that there is great need for websites designed specially for mobile phones. The reading experience of PC websites on mobile phones is just time consuming.

Check this out for an idea of what police content could be
    http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/pa...bd001fd68a.htm

Figures have been released at the end of Greater Manchester Police's 24 hours of publishing details of every incident on Twitter.

Between 5am on Thursday 14 October 2010 and 5am, today, Friday 15 October, the force has dealt with 3205 incidents and posted details of every single one on Twitter.

The calls have ranged from those that are not police matters, including someone who called to say there was a rat in the house, and that the cat may be responsible, and a woman reporting a man shouting "you're gorgeous" at her, to serious offences including injuries to a child.

Officers have arrested 341 people in the same time period and 126 of those remain in custody.

The demonstration has seen Greater Manchester Police's Twitter profile go from having 3,000 followers in the two years since it was set up to more than 17,000 today.

Many of the followers have posted comments about the exercise. One said: ⿿What comes across from these tweets is how much the police are involved in the community and how much they are relied upon.⿝

Other comments included ⿿I applaud the decision to open up your world to us ⿿ it was fascinating⿝, and ⿿they did more in the last five minutes than I thought they would in a whole day.⿝

Yes, ChinaMobi I totally agree. I don't even bother with the BlackBerry with the pinch, zoom and scroll for non-mobile websites. Forget it. I'm not interested in ruining my eyes. I have perfect vision without glasses OR contacts. Yeah. I'm going to try keeping it that way too.

I only type in .mobi or not at all. That is me. I'm sure there will be more like me out there.

We don't have time to struggle with the mobile phones.

Build it right. We'll come and shop. The frustrating thing for me is that there aren't enough mcommerce sites. I imagine that will change sooner or later. It'll have to b/c women are the ones who do most of the purchasing.

Using a mobile phone to surf the net gives me a totally different perspective on the potential of mobile sites.

I just bought another Vodafone 845/Huawei Joy today as the price further dropped -- this time for my wife. Looking at the speed that Android prices are dropping, I see that within a year or two you can buy a contract-free, basic Android phone for less than US$100. That means a large population will be surfing the net from their mobile phones. Image the need for sites specially designed for pleasant reading on the phones!

When there is great awareness and demand for sites specially designed for phones, there may be a spillover effect so that for marketing purpose .mobi will be used. This is the upside potential I may enjoy, even though my whole focus is generating enough cashflow to sustain my investment. I'm 100% .mobi.
