I bought this domain name flowers.mobi because of the huge discount in price at the Traffic Auction.

No, i do not own any other .mobi domain names.

its definitely a good keyword but i personally wouldnt take into account the previous selling price in qualifying it as a "discount"... this is a dangerous way of thinking when dealing with domain names in my opinion.

Have you done any domain development before? Did you have any plan before shelling out your 6K?

I don't see myself visiting the site just to select a flower picture and add a message in order to send it to my friends. Isn't it much easier to use your smart phone to take a photo of your favorite flower and then attach it to an email?

Use it as a flower delivery site.

Have it detect what device is viewing you site, pc or mobile device. Here is an example of one of my geo's http://Aberystwyth.mobi

Instead of business's like i am using use affiliate links to various flower companies.

I have another site that is a price comparison http://iFlorist.mobi

I looked into it myself when news of the auction emerged, found no mobile friendly affiliate programs for flower sales. With no clear monetization path I capped my price well below your final price as a result. It's a great keyword, but it may be a while until you can actually earn back your money from it via site cash flow as an outsider to the flower industry. You have a lot of work ahead to do it well.

This is what mjnels is talking about, the price needed to be based on what you can earn from it rather than what was previously paid for it.

    I'd suggest:

    1) Get great data of florists around the world
    2) Get it in a directory
    3) Get said directory indexed

    The you can sell:

    a) Back link with perfect SEO anchor text to florist websites
    b) Fully hosted virtual website for florist needing an online presence with either a sub-domain or up sell them a domain

I'd add the e-card idea simply as a different twist on send to a friend functionality.

It could also serve well as a botanical reference guide or a database of flowers where you can search for number of leaves, colour etc to see what it is.

It's all down to good data, without your options are pretty limited, with it the sky is your limit!

Of course in an ideal world you'd have a nationwide network of florist stores but never mind......

So what were you smoking when you dropped a few grand on this without what appears to be a solid plan? Can you post me a kilo or two and I'll happily be your dev monkey.

i like the idea of virtual flowers
if it caught on, it could go really well

ecard web sites are some of the busiest on the net i believe, with a lot of ad eyeballs looking

why not have a splash screen with a nice picture of flowers and a choice:

To send Virtual Flowers (press here)
To send Real Flowers (press here)

good luck, good to see you are developing it

    Welcome Anunt:

Congratulations on winning flowers.mobi I wish you the best of luck developing it.
This forum has many wonderful members who know a lot about .mobi: developing and domaining.
They also know a lot about everything to make this world go round and round.

You'll make some great friends. Possibly for a life time if they find you worthy.

Do you own any .com or any other tld websites? If so, have you developed any of them? What is the url (domain name)?
    Can you develop websites yourself?

    Good luck with your .mobi.

    Congratulations on your new name..
This forum has some great developers, I highly suggest you use them to properly develop your flowers domain, the absolute worst is another parked page, I hope you don't do that. You know.. you may not know much about the flower industry, but you can always ask for some advice on how you can make it work for you, Maybe ppl who work in the industry!

Welcome to the forum, stick around, and keep us posted on how you go with your new name...

My BEST advice to you is do not in any way consider yourself CONFINED to a mobile site. You won an excellent KEYWORD domain at a fair price if you put additional capital behind it to build out a great site. I would look here and elsewhere for developers (digital point, etc.). You can always add on a smurf sized mobile site later, but build out a robust PC version to take advantage of the keyword domain, then worry about mobile secondarily. There are no enforceable requirements on the name to stay mobile. Good luck.

    Hi Anunt and welcome.

I think you need to define your objectives and you may want to research what is achievable.

AS Scandiman pointed out, this name might be hard to monetise. As Tim pointed out, you should think in terms of using the full screen - it is precious real estate and using only a tiny bit of it for PC visitors is like building a kiosk on a piece of land big enough for a whole shopping centre.

Do you want to resell to an end-user? Then investment in development could be wasted. In terms of what is a realistic resale price to target, as many have said, looking at prices from the mobi bubble phase is misleading. The real question is what - as a ceiling - people would pay for this keyword in non .com and non countrycode extensions.

Is the word flowers developed in other extensions?

It's nice to see mobi names developed but I don't see one or two developed names affecting aftermarket domain prices.

I'll give you this much anunt, you're upfront about your situation. I hope you're prepared to either do a lot of learning about coding or spend as much or more than the purchase price for quality development. Keep in mind that the plans and specifications are your job and not the developers, do your homework, research like crazy, know what you want to accomplish and then begin to execute it.

    @photoman - Thank you!

Anunt, thanks for the email, appreciated, I've spent the best part of the day digesting it and got back to you with an outline for a master plan.

I'm hard to hire as my personal website says but I like the name, I like the potential I really like the fact you've got the balls to say **** it and throw down cold hard on a whim and a feeling. Ticks all my boxes and as you'll see from your inbox it got my synapses firing.

I admit I first thought WTF why why why with no market sector experience but somtimes just having the gumption and balls to do something matters much more than 'having a plan'.
