Default Sneak Peek at new dotMobi development tools

James Pearce, CTO of dotMobi and soon to be VP Emerging Technologies, has this to say about his ideas for development tools in the coming year:

"There are a couple of things I’ve got in mind. Firstly, I’d like to to help understand how dotMobi’s existing tools can be better used. I’ve got a DeviceAtlas WordPress plugin up my sleeve, for example - and I think there’s lots more we can do to make that platform easier to use in familiar runtime environments. We’d like to push DeviceAtlas further in the area of AJAX and CSS support. I expect I’ll rattle off a few posts for mobiForge. And I expect I’ll also be chipping in some ideas for Instant Mobilizer."

These tools sound great, and I am really looking forward to Instant Mobilizer and anything having to do with WordPress. Thanks, James!

I'd like to see AJAX support for a phone first.

We are keen to cover Javascript and AJAX for mobiles in a way that can be useful for designers and developers. What would you be using it the most? Why do you need information about AJAX for mobiles? Are you already using it on any site and if so, which devices are you targetting?

I'm not using AJAX as I don't really see a need for it, but it would be nice if either that or javascript could become a standard on phones.

Wait, how would we, at dotMobi, help Javascript to become a standard in mobile devices? We are not vendor of devices nor of mobile browsers. YES, we can stimulate developers, look into specs and try to promote a few things, but we are not working for Teleca, access or other browser vendors.

Also, you said you don't see a need to use AJAX, but you'd like to have it. It's like saying I don't need a Ferrari, but if I had it, I'd be happier. Doesn't that apply to anything?
