I think it's the end of .mobi They have no interest in promoting their brand to the public at all. They had all the opportunities but squandered them. .mobi's a lame duck. errrr dead duck. The mobile internet will take off without .mobi on board.

In the end, it is NBC's decision as to how they want to promote the olympics. And it is apparent that NBC is more interested in promoting NBC.

from the looks of it they are using mobile. in their domain name.

NEWS RELEASE m. is no longer the norm. If you have an m. name sell it now! It's DEAD!

So the mobile market seems to be going in several different directions.

We have some m. sites, mobile.keyword.com, keyword.com/mobile, and .mobi. The consumer will be very confused with no clear cut way to gain access to content

Oh and I guess the consumer could just use the .com and hope for an auto detect like AA.com. Sounds like the mobile space may end up spidering into many different directions, leaving the consumer guessing each and every time they access the mobile web

I really hope that mtld quickly gets a mass awareness campaign in motion. They cannot rely on adverts like Bofa.mobi or Foxnews.mobi to make mobi a household name!

I know some people on this board have inside access to some behind the scenes works. Can anyone provide any insight as to what mtld plans to do along the marketing lines?

    time of the month

ok. who's surprised. we knew all this already.
it was never gonna be m. only or mobi only etc. this is the way its gonna be. get used to it.
we can only hope for a significant slice.

thing that surpises me most is the olympic committee allowing nbc to use 'olympics' in their domain. they take everyone to court and rip all olympic names back, they dont allow people to even write books with the name. scandalous really. i am actually amazed they havent kicked off about it. maybe we should tell them lol

when you are paying nearly a billion dollars for the rights to broadcast they tend to let you do whatever you want. the local stations are not allowed to do this. only the parent company.

    Hi Mobitime,

Welcome to mobility. You are right, it would be nice if all mobile websites were .mobi, however that is not going to happen. What perspective are you coming from, as a domainer, developer or business owner? The answer I would give you depends heavily on your perspective.

Thank you for posting and I would like to remind everyone that new members such as mobitime are going to have questions and they deserve respectful answers imho.

once again for you SLOW ones...it's all development...the extension doesnt matter or the "m" part...

I search on my itouch every morning...about once in 5 or 6 a mobi site appears within the first few pages...they are the winners.

Main thing is some of us got "keyword".mobis that we could never have dreamed of in .com...develope them and WIN!

btw dir.mobi was one and I cant remember the others.

Coast of course every one deserves a respectful answer but I dont think Mobitime was asking a question, rather he was making a statement.

If you look at the posts I made in the past 2 months or so I think you will see that I push .mobi and support it all the way.

IMO Mobitime was not asking a question but making a statement. If there had been a "IS" in front and a questionmark at the end of that sentence then it would be a question.

Well, I think he's actually making a valid point. I didn't read it any other way. It certainly is too bad when a potentially big .mobi publicity opportunity is "missed." But at the same time, it's also the case that there will be many other opportunities...

Did anybody here say that he did not make a valid point? I agree with him and more.
I only said that it was a statement not a question and that was a response to Coast

Binary, it seemed that a few members did have or might have knee jerk reactions to what he said and it was not directed at you, it was a general comment. With all the arguing on the other forum I was just cautioning against starting it here, that's all.

We all like and want to protect this forum and we each have our own way of doing it, this was mine on this occasion.
