    Default Good Mobile SEO Resources

    Hi all,

It's clear that those in this forum have more questions about mobile SEO than I will be able to answer today. Therefore, I wanted to point all of you to a few of the best resources that I know of for developing and optimizing mobile sites. Hopefully that will bring everyone up to speed on the basics and we can go from there.

First, there's a mobile search optimization white paper that Resolution Media developed last year. It answers a lot of questions about what mobile SEO is, and gives some best practices for getting your mobile sites indexed and ranked in search engines.

Google also has a great help section for webmasters, including mobile webmasters. Here are three
Google: How can I create a mobile sitemap?
Google: Where can I find information on developing my own mobile sites?
Google: I have a mobile site. How can I add it to Google's mobile index?

These things explain the basics. If you need more, there are several blogs in the space, including mine. I also save many mobile SEO resources in my del.icio.us bookmarks, if any of you are on del.icio.us.

    Ohhhh it's all so 2007

Any Google published link isn't worth all the 'whoooo thanks' I'm seeing here. If you're excited by that get over to YouTube and subscribe to the Google channels. Same with WMT and Matt Cutts blog.

Don't rely on your info from any source other than the search engine you're trying to rank in. Get your info direct from the 'horses mouth' so to speak.

    That PDF wasn't inspiring....

The link below is a work in progress, I will stick it all into my custom made CMS one day and make the site pretty till then it'll have to do in it's vanilla form:

    http://seochecklist.mobi/

Ignore the thing about reviews, I've simply not got the time to even consider it at the moment......

Not inspirational in looks but the content doesn't smell like BS to me.

No, not at all. It looks like a piece of very valuable diamond. I've printed it out and plan to spend the next few days digesting the content. Thanks a lot, Andy.

Andy, that whitepaper is from 2007, which is why it might strike you as being "so 2007". If you want more up to date information, I would invite you to read my Search Engine Land articles, as I'm now writing fairly regularly on mobile SEO issues, including mobile app optimization and duplicate content issues.

I'm sorry you're not impressed by the resources I posted a few years ago, but I have to say the link you posted is very basic, sometimes inaccurate, and not specific to SEO for mobile search results. You don't have to tell me twice to ignore the thing about reviews. Best of luck.

    A friendly suggestion:

How about Mobility hosts a Mobile SEO Q & A session?

I'm thinking a list of the top twenty most common questions, that way we can all contribute here to bring it up to date and it would bring extra value to mobility.mobi

It's a good suggestion, Andy. I'm interested in learning more about SEO as it relates to mobile websites.

    Here's my first question:
Very often, the home page of a mobile site consists of just mostly menus and not much text, when compared to a traditional PC site. Is such mobile site disadvantaged when Google etc evaluates the site?

Web designers are presently trudging through some serious mobile design and standards issues. These roadblocks to an easy and accessible mobile Web will probably not go away anytime soon. Further, mobile search engines are themselves very new and imperfect. For these reasons, mobile SEO and SEM are, well, very immature.
