    Default Extremely Angry at Sedo!

I'm not sure what is going on over there but this latest reserve issue has ****** me off. There is a certain name in the auction that had a reserve of $1,000-$5,000. I actually bid over myself twice to get a high $xxx amount so I could at least get it close to the reserve so I would have a chance. Now that they lowered the reserves to what I believe is the next bid meets the reserve, if I end up buying the name I would have had to pay more for the name than I might have had before this crap move. I noticed many names that were in the low $xxx met the reserve with the next bid.

I am not considering not bidding again in this auction because in my opinion it is rigged! It was not set up to be a supply vs demand auction. It was set up to try to drag as much money as possible and then back off. This is not fair and something needs to be done about it. I am currently writing an email to sedo and mtld explaining this situation and asking them to remove my previous bid and move the price back down. If they have the right to do it with the reserves then I have the right to do it with my bids.

I find the changes in the reserve price several hours ago, but didn't think more about it. It is unprofessional!

I noticed that thread but I thought starting a new thread relating to these reserves is important to get the attention of the people at MTLD.

With all the mTLD people on board here, it would be a great idea to contact them directly with some PM's.

Perhaps an open letter of sorts with names added from supporting members.

I am still amazed at the same end and start times.

At this current rate, we're looking at about a 45 year span of release of saved domains.

A reserve is so arbitrary. Time to let the market dictate the price and value.

Seems to me, instead of not selling two because neither reaching $5000 each reserve would still be a good sale if the same pair did sell for $8,000 total.

    Completely agree Gerry.

Honesty, even if all 5000 domains went for $1 to people who promised to develop them, it'd be worth it in my opinion -- just imagine how many new people will/would find out about .mobi if 5000 more .mobi websites were up and about on 5000 of the best keyword.mobis out there!

Insane that they're going about this so slowly.

I understand that Mtld is a business, but I see it like this... Mtld makes $10 or so (sorry, not aware of the wholesale price) per year off all the regged .mobis, so they're currently making about $10M, give or take a couple million in renewal fees each year.

So if Mtld even got that doubled to say, 2M registered .mobis, that'd be $10M more ($10 times 1M) for them each year. Impossible? I don't think so with great .mobi websites on 5000 of the best .mobis there are.

Takes 5000 and divide it into 10M -- they'd be making them $2000/year extra thanks to EACH of these 5000 premium .mobis.

Someone correct me if my math is wrong here but I don't believe it is... Apply standard business goal of doubling up every 7 years and that amounts to valuing each of these premium .mobis at $14000!!!

And that's if Mtld just went from approx 1M regs to 2M regs -- imagine if they went to 3M or 4M or 5M,...

Seriously, I don't know how they're adding the math up that hoarding these domains makes sense. Everything I add suggests it doesn't.

Regardless of how people feel about the original reserve price range, I think we can all agree it was unprofessional to change the reserves mid auction. Essentially the rules changed in the middle of the game.

I thought something was up. All of a sudden, there were all these reserves met and I am not sure the prices went up. I thought I had totally missed something and was mistaken from the beginning.

    Long time.

If the core group and base is totally disenfranchised, there will be deeper problems in the long term. And some of those consequences may well be unpleasant.

I have no doubt that here, on this forum, are the voices that need to be listened to and taken seriously.

I am not going to stop or slow down with my plans, but I can not do it alone.

    And neither can mTLD.

    Spot on, Reece...

This slow-motion release of premium names just doesn't make any strategic sense to me at all...

May have seemed a good plan in 2006, perhaps....But, not in 2008 as things have developed for .mobi in the marketplace...

4500 good names locked up for years is just a dead weight on .mobi market penetration...

Seriously, if Mtld were to give all the domains away with a very streamlined RFP process, that'd be by far the best thing for both .mobi and Mtld long term in my opinion.

Just imagine the impact a single site like Change.mobi from Obama could have... Imagine 5000 of them!

We're all kidding ourselves if we think highest bidder on Sedo with a development requirement is the best way to get these domains developed... At least 9/10 people out in the REAL WORLD haven't got a clue what a Sedo is and wouldn't even know it's a website unless you phrased it as "Have you ever been to Sedo.com".

This issue reece brought up has been discussed before but to no avail.

It truly doesn't make sense to take this so slow when when 500 new regs will make mtld more money than the average they are getting for 1 name being auctioned.

It has also been brought up in the past, that it is important to get feedback from potential customers about anything you are planning to launch or introduce to the public. It does not seem like mtld has the same philophy and only operates on their own perceptions rather than those that use or could use their product.

Very well said Media. Always smart to listen to your customers.

If this auction goes down the toilet there won't be a roundtable. The best place to discuss it will be blogs and forums, where search engines can share the news.

Just as I thought, both of the auctions I had bid on to get those names closer to the reserve just got bids on them. The bids increased the price by $50 and both say reserve now met.

FURIOUS about how this was done!

mTLD overshot the market value for this domain space and rather then eat pie as there was very little interest at the first set reserves, they simply do a soft reserve price drop so there is then a lot of manufactured interest which they can now tout... mTLD is screwing this up... But I bet they say it was Sedo's call and Sedo will say it was mTLD's call... hmmm, haven't we been here before!

    i mean beef.mobi for $130 roflamo,

i had some important business to attend to so missed end of auction anyway, but got out bid on purple. cant believe went for 140 or whatever. so highly brandable would have loved. that would have gone for 5k a time back imho

if anyone who won it dont want it, id love it
anyway back to the mudslinging. sedo and mtld can rim my ass
