Hello everyone... we recently just re-launched http://www.pilot.mobi .

We have now gone from just providing directions to also providing maps. You can type in an address and you'll get a map for that location. You have the ability to zoom in/out and pan up/down/left/right. You can also get directions to/from your map with one simple click.

Two other things you'll notice is our new look and feel and our new logo. My thank you to theBiffinator on this one. He put in some incredible amount of time and finally came up with a solution that I was happy with. Hopefully you guys will like it too. If you want logos done, he's your man and he's reasonably priced.

A special thank you once again to theBiffinator for the logo and Scandiman for his relentless pushing to incorporate new functionality.

Our system works in the USA and we are now working on future developments to include coverage to other parts of the world.

I would appreciate any and all .mobility members to test the phone and pc version. Your input is greatly desired and highly valued. Please let me know what you like and don't like.

Thank You,
Michael

Biff, nice logo work!

Michael, good to see both maps and directions being made available, the two go hand in hand. The way you let users go from a map to directions is a good time saver as well.

I was just trying it out on my phone via Opera Mini and there is a problem with the Maps link on the home page, it cycles back to the home page. But it works fine on the native phone browser. The Directions link works fine on both Opera Mini and the native browser.

Just another pair of eyes to make sure that everything looks ok. I wouldn't mind you trying the maps and directions to make sure that everything hangs together. Thanks biff.

worked great. took about 4-5 seconds to load on each page with the maps. basicly I typed in Philadelphia, PA and saw the whole city map by the arrow and zoom buttons. And the phone is pretty much the same phone as the average "promotion phone". Its a buy one get 2 free or something like that kind of phone.

Could not get the map using the emulator on the PC, maybe I did not wait long enough or it is the company network I am accessing through.

I have been looking at mapping since I set up cityview.mobi and I think the way to go may be to render all maps server side and deliver to the phone as an image. This may be quicker, I hope to have a working demo soon to compare speeds.

What API are you using for mapping? I have been using Windows Live up until now.

regards, andyr.

I just checked it... it seems to be ok?! The rendering of the maps server side is interesting. The only thing is that there will still be a lag. Meaning, if you gather all the information server side first, you'll still have to wait for the information to be retrieved leaving your visitor not knowing if the page is working. I think it could work both ways, I'd be interested in seeing your test results. PM sent.
