I have finally been able to release the first edition of the Joomla .mobi Building Tutorial.
www.iJoom.net (http://ijoom.net)
It is a basic "how to" guide assuming the reader knows nothing about anything. And for those that know something about site building you will still be able to benefit.
Again, a public THANK YOU to Seanboy for the help on the cPanel questions and Rob and Ben for the inspiration just by letting me know Joomla is a viable option for building a mobile site.
I would like to include options for making sites but want things to be as detailed and illustrated and "dummied down" for peeps like me. So if you feel inclined to make or create a tutorial along these lines, I would be honored to try it myself and include links.
And for those of you using Joomla, if you would like to contribute tips, techniques, other methods...you can be part of this ongoing project.
I plan to just take a break from all of this for awhile. Changes and revisions will most likely happen.
For those waiting for this, thanks for the patience.

Using This Site

Making a .mobi site does not have to be intimidating.
Joomla does not have to be intimidating.
Actually, it is down right fun and easy.
This site is for the beginner, novice, or intermediate levels for using joomla.
No programming experience is necessary to pull this off.
I have made this site as basic as possible starting with the basics.
Depending on your level will depend on where you need to start.
If you are totally clueless, then you will want to start at the very beginning and follow along with each section presented as they appear in the menu.
Starting with DNS changes, working with cPanel, and creating files, you will see (literally see) how to pull all of these pieces together to make a site.
If you already know that basic stuff, then you may want to jump in at the middle with some basic Joomla stuff like Logging On or Uploading Images.
If you are already a Joomla pro, then take the time to add to the fun and this site.

You will find that there is no point is isolating yourself from the crowd of mobile site making.
It is not my intent to teach you all the ins and outs of Joomla.
This is basic. Very basic.
To begin with, I am not a Joomla Pro. I can honestly say that I know what I know...and that is it.
And I can honestly say that I have not found a more flexible and rewarding method to get sites up and running.
Even in making this site, I have learned more and more. That is what is great about Joomla. It can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.
I think that once you do a couple of these for .mobi sites, you will want to explore the magnitude of possibilities that Joomla holds for creating any site for any function.
http://ijoom.net/images/car.jpg
I want you to make a .mobi site.
And you will make a .mobi site.
And once you have accomplished this you will see that it is not so much about bragging rights as it is about functionality.
For all the talk there has been about how .mobi is not needed I say;
No One Knows What Need Until They can not Find it.
Where to Begin:
http://ijoom.net/mambots/editors/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif If you know nothing at all about DNS servers or making a site, start at Changing DNS.
http://ijoom.net/mambots/editors/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif If you know how to change DNS but know nothing about cPanel, start at cPanel Simplified.
http://ijoom.net/mambots/editors/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif If you know to change DNS, know cPanel (Fantastico), or will be using a host that does not use cPanel, start at Finding Joomla Tools.
http://ijoom.net/mambots/editors/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif If you know Joomla but plan on building a mobile site with Joomla, start at Finding Joomla Tools.
Notable Notations:
This site and the tutorial site has been done with the FireFox browser. Use what ever browser you feel comfortable with. But understand that for PC sites, things may look differently in different browsers.
It is very easy to print out Step-By-Step instructions. If you look at the top right of each page, you will see three Icons. From left to right:
PDF
PRINT
EMAILSelecting the PDF icon will remove the images and give you text instructions to print, share, or follow along.
A Work In Progress:
As mentioned, I am not a joomla guru. I know what I know.
But I also know a great many people who want a very basic, simple, easy to follow along guide and tools to build a basic Joomla site.
Time permitting, I will be adding to this site in the form of guest contributors, intermediate and advanced mobile site construction, and image gallery of Joomla built sites.
And, in keeping with the spirit of Open Source and "Free is Good", feel free to print, share, bastardize, or otherwise steal contents from this site.
