Hi I am new to the .mobi tld and have recently become interested. I have scouted a name out that has already been registered through tld's such as .com, .net, .info.

However, it has not been registered through .mobi. Where do I find out if the domain name I am thinking of is owned by someone and therefore I should not buy it as a .mobi?

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi SoldierofLife and welcome to mobility. I would suggest checking to see if there is a trademark on the name first and if not go ahead and purchase the .mobi extension. Glad to have you aboard.

try
namescout.com
it gives you whois on all names

and don't worry about TM. just buy the name. worry later

This isn't very good advice - I bet he is joking!

For trademark searches check uspto.gov and also you can google the name.

Most TMs are bs.
As an example:: Citibank has TM on CITI, but not the word, the LOGO!
You can't TM generics!

You can't TM generics! You are entitled to your opinion but the law disagrees with you. TM's for generic terms are issued all the time, I'm typing right now on an Apple computer and some members here probably subscribe to service from Orange. Where the distinction comes in is that The term typically can't be TM'ed for its generic usage. I am pretty sure I would be rejected if I tried to TM the word apple for selling apples. But I could TM my "apple" logo for selling apples. Regardless of how you feel about it, that is the way it works and you need to understand it so you can function in this business.

and don't worry about TM. just buy the name. worry laterTruly bad advice. It is entirely possible that a person be sued for registered TM infringement which ***ers the plaintiff punitive damages.

I am making a public plea for this guy to
be banned permanantly. Continuous
negativity and bad advice is not good
for this community!

You've had your chance.

I think it was a mistake to let you back into our garden of eden. You're not worthy.

--> You give bad advice, potentially libelous advice, to a new member.
--> You spam the hell out of ebay with scandalous auctions.
--> You post nonsense here regularly that no one "gets"

What is your purpose anyway? What value do you ad? None.

I didn't know that lynchings are popular in the 'garden of eden'.
Good thing I'm only Latino. God forbid I was African-American in your 'garden of eden' .

And you're a racist too...I think that sums it. Will someone please show terror the door?

just got to love a thread like this in the newbie section. locking this down and discussing things in the mod team.

EDIT: We've made the difficult decision to ban member mobite permanently. It is not a decision we take lightly and regret needing to go there.
