"Beeld" means picture/screen, also referred to an 'image or view', depending on the context on which it is said in Afrikaans or Dutch!

Came across it in the latest .mobi news via Google...

Great, great news. Google the cellular phone industries projection in sales over the next couple of years and you will see all agree that the fastest and largest percentage increase will be Africa and South Africa to the tune of about 500 million expected to sell. This will be a huge market for the mobile iternet as more can afford cellphones than PC's or laptops.

I own Sokker.mobi which is soccer in Afrikanaa.

South Africa is the host of the 2010 World Cup.

Qualifying is underway. Would LOVE to get someone on board with me to get this developed and deployed as soon as possible,

Gerry, if your up for some community input on this, consider pulling together some rough specs and start a thread so we can all discuss it and see where this can go. Huge opportunity here IMO for .mobi in general.

If you need help with the Afrikaans language or any other questions just ask me. I lived in South Africa for 45 years and go back every year for holiday as my folks still live there. I speak Afrikaans fluently and own quite a few Afrikaans .Mobi's. Of course the country is fully bilingual and English is spoken by all as well as 11 official African languages such as Zulu, Xhoza, Sotho and 8 others.

Baie dankie, mooi bly. .Mobi gaan wen.

First step would be to approach them regarding permission to use the logo.

If not, I have to create my own for Sokker.mobi. No big deal. But I would love to get FIFA on board with this as it would be a great benefit to them, not to mention .mobi.

Ideally, in the interim leading up to the world cup, the site should be dedicated to international play in all FIFA sanctioned league play which will involve a great many countries and languages. But I have seen feeds that are capable of providing this.

I could be wrong :dontknow:, but I think Scandi was referring to this part of your post:

I have no doubt you can develop an attractive logo, probably 20 of them.

What I would like for you to expand on is the site details: Homepage will have these links that have these functions etc. For the reasons you and dagersh pointed out I think this is a huge opportunity for not only you but mobi in general. I'd like to try and solicit community input on this to get this site planed and executed. We're talking about world cup soccer folks. Wild opportunity to spread the word about .mobi. Help a member and help ourselves in the process.

What about Uefa Euro 2008 in Vienna http://www.uefa.com/competitions/euro/index.html

I've got FootballEurope.mobi/EuropeFootball.mobi/EuropeanFootball.mobi and EuropeanSoccer.mobi to develop... Anyone suggestions?

11 official languages, that's crazy! At least there is the one commonality with English. So how many languages do you know?

It may not be the ideal spelling for SOCCER or FOOTBALL, but when will those ever get developed? This says SOKKER, this is about the number one sport in the world.

I guess we do need another thread. Sure, I own it. But it is a name, a .mobi, and an opportunity to bring great awarness to .mobi and (of course) link to this site.

With or without the blessing of FIFA on the logo issue, this does not infringe on any TM or SM. It is a dictionary generic word in the Afrikanaa spelling. I am sure there are countless TM violated regs out there. But to me nothing says soccer like SOKKER.

But I guess the first step is to contact FIFA about the logo usage. Should they consent they may have very strict guidelines on ads appearing and so on.

I appreciate the input and look forward to further discussion on this.

Thanks Scandi for the support. We all need to be pessimistic and visionaries of sorts to move .mobi forward.

That's one of the things I love about this site--so many people with different backgrounds, areas of expertise, etc., and everyone is willing to help. Binary, one of the guys in my office is from SA, and I regged nuus.mobi and hotelle.mobi based on his recommendation. They appear to be Afrikaans for news and hotels. A quick check of Google shows that there are paid ads and/or fully developed websites using these words in the URL (i.e., SAnuus.com, SArugbyNuus.co.za, hotelle.com, etc.). I'd appreciate any thoughts you had on the potential for these in the SA market.

Thanks,

MM

Nope, I guess I must be then. :embarassed: I was born on 14 July 1953.
Here's a photo of myself and my girlfriend that I took last Sunday. Old farts hey! Mind you, she is 14 years younger then me.
Ps. Why is Beeld.mobi advertised as for sale on Afternic?
