Hi there,

Is it possible for the administrator to enable the RSS option of this forum ?

Although I love you all guys...it's very handy for me to view the latest subjects without opening my browser..(while working for my boss).

I know the option exist in this type of php forum...

So how does this new feature work?Just use this RSS link: http://mobility.mobi/external.php?type=rss2

I went a step further, guys, and created an inbound RSS with the latest news featuring "dotMobi". That way, we get all the news here, as it happens, rather than having to go look for it.

You can check it out here: http://mobility.mobi/forumdisplay.php?f=53

I'll probably need to tweak this to optimize it, but I think it's a great feature. All the news now appears in the "Latest .mobi News" within the "News and Discussion" sub-forum.

Good job Andres. The guy who came up with the idea must be a really smart guy...:thrasher:I went yet a step further and added the RSS feed from mTLD's blog so that whenever they update the blog, it will get posted in our mTLD sub-forum (http://mobility.mobi/forumdisplay.php?f=11).

RSS is some pretty powerful stuff...as you guys can tell, I'm still figuring out all the magic this forum can produce.

That's awesome...I was going to report that "rss" guy as a spammer until I read this thread...:congrats:Yeah, since it was the first time fetching the stories, it got them all at once. From now on, the RSS Feeder will only spit the stories as they happen.

Andres, is there a way to prevent members from starting new threads in that subforum (if that's not already the case)? Just so it remains "RSS only"? It would, of course, be nice to have the option to reply to an RSS thread, however?

It's either full read/write access or just read-only access. Also, since the RSS Feed behaves like a regular user, I don't think the RSS would work if the sub-forum had read-only access.

Can you give the RSS "admin" privileges, or something like that? If not, and if read-only wouldn't work, maybe you could just post a sticky at the top of the subforum requesting that no one start a new thread...

So I'll just whack on a sticky.

To allow only a single user to post threads, and all others to reply in a specific forum:

1. Create a new group (let's call it "Bots") and add the RSS Feeds user to it.
2. Edit your forum permissions for the 'latest dotmobi news' forum and give the "Bots" group permission to post new threads
3. Edit the permissions for the registered users group and not allow them to create new threads

I'd suggest you create a "news feeds" forum and apply the above to that, hang the dotmobi news off of this and reset its permissions.

This way if you add any other news feeds in the future, you won't need to redo the process as they will inherit the permissions from the "news feeds" parent forum.

I've implemented your instructions, let me know if you are able to post new threads and replies. You should not be able to do the former but you should be able to do the latter.

You're like the vBulletin master, very glad to have you on board! Cheers!
