Is the the translation of cupom, coupon in English?
Hi!
Yes, "cupom" is coupon in Portuguese, but to be honest with you, here in Brazil we donīt have that kind of "coupon culture", like in USA. People donīt use to cut them from the newspapers... actually, we donīt have coupons printed on magazines or newspapers... only in a few places like the "yellow pages" (and again, nobody cares...).
Itīs common to relate "cupom" to fiscal issues (Taxes): we say "cupom fiscal", which is a kind of "tax invoice". And another one: we fill in a "cupom" (with our name, address, etc) to participate in a contest (draw).
No idea about what happens in Portugal. Maybe some of you guys could help here: Is the coupons popular in Portugal??
Best regards,
Celo.
