Hey Guys,
I have a .mobi which brings in about 10,000 hits per day and 1000+ uniques. Its a video/Youtube type site just for reference.
At the moment I make next to nothing with Admob so i'm searching for something better because I feel that with my traffic, I should be making more than $1 a day!!!
My objective is to pick your brains. I have run many successful pc/web based sites and I have no problems monetizing them. But when it comes to .mobi's and dedicated mobile sites.. I am truly lost.
So my question is: What would you do?
Thanks for your help guys!

From my interactions with inmobi people they are bunch of lost crowd who are making millions but giving out peanuts. No, they actually have problems at even giving away peanuts. I earned 3 USD in 3months and they banned my account, Thats how crappy they are. Admob is still better bet for cost per click. You may go for quattro or google ads, try mobpartner too maybe that would give you enough moolah.

Interesting that.. I have been searching and searching for a good way to monetise mobile traffic and its really difficult. Why no normal CPA networks type places to go?
My traffic has hit 40,000 hits a day and Admob eCPM has steadily dropped from $2 all the way down to .30c. The more traffic I send them the less they want to give me.. dont think its fair really.
Thanks for your help guys.. if anyone else has a great option, would love to hear it.
Cheers

I am in the same situation. I have about the same traffic and at one stage I was making $10 a day from one of my sites with admob. Traffic has increased and now I make a few cents a day. I wish I could monetize my sites. I think that I will just dump all advertising.

Maybe you you sell ad space directly, and cut out the middle man?

i hate admob,
Yesterday i got 0.13$ revenue for 67 Clicks. also CTR rate is 0.51%.
what a joke ? :)

If its usa based traffic, then you should be earning money, if however the traffic is from elsewhere then its pretty worthless.
Always check your stats to see where the traffic is coming from. Tube sites typically pull in a lot of ****e traffic from china, turkey, jamaica etc.

That means you are getting a little less than 0.002 USD per click , check geostats, you will know the source of clicks, if they are found in the unknown geo region and Asia region then its quite believable.
If its usa based traffic, then you should be earning money, if however the traffic is from elsewhere then its pretty worthless.
add europe too in the list. USA traffic pays high - no doubt about it

Your correct newton & morce.
Asia - Clicks 66 (no china)
Middle East- Clicks 1
But north Americans traffic is higher than Asian Traffic. Unfortunately, they didn't click ads. :(
can you recommend an another mobile ad company?

Are you sure that there are ads on the north american hits etc showing up? I know some of the companies i tried said they had advertisers for those regions but there were none. To be honest with you its been a long time since i have used any advertisers, as they are not worth the aggravation. However, the best solution may still be to make a pc site (with pc advertising / banners etc) such as a wordpress blog, using the mobile plugin from ready.mobi, and having the detection decide which site to send the surfer to. You can then have mobile advertising on the mobile template so it will double your chances of making bank.

Cheers guys.. I'm getting traffic from a whole range of countries incl Europe, US and Asia..
But the most annoying thing is.. as my traffic spiked from 10,000 - 20,000 hits/day.. Admob loved it and was giving me $2.5 eCPM... after steady uphill growth its now at around 50,000 hits.. and admob is giving me .40c eCPM.. its the same traffic sources and geo!!!!! More traffic = less money. what? The more consistent traffic I send... the less they give me.. isnt that like the worst business practice in the world? "For those who consistently make us money, lets screw em"...
Now looking for a good CPA network.. even a gambling one.. anyone had good experiences they would like to share?

It has happened to everyone I have spoken to about earning a decent wage with them and then suddenly.. as if by magic .. the rate drops to nothing. The best thing you can do is to move your traffic elsewhere. Good luck to you :)

I wonder if it has something to do with Google buying admob. Google uses different metrics and pays just about nothing. Also, most people in USA don't click on ads. They just don't. If people are coming to your site looking for free content, there's nothing to convert. I think Seanboy has the right idea, to sell ads directly if the advertiser is trying to reach the demographics/geographics you are receiving.

I'm sorry but what is a 'hit'?
A hit could be your robots.txt file or favicon.ico loading, a hit could be bot generated like your sitemap being checked out. A hit to me is a server side indication of a file being accessed, a html page can have 20 images in there so one page view would generate 21 hits, 22 including favicon.ico etc.
Do you mean ad impressions?
I've seen huge numbers of ads shown in a day and very little revenue, it's easy enough to explain, spiders and bots do not click on ads and they might be browsing as a mobile device with no means of identifiying it as a spider.
How many of your 50,000 'hits' (whatever the heck they are) are actually down to your 1,000 uniques? How many are automated bots?
As for admob, I make a tenth of what I used to. I enjoyed surfing that wave before it broke.

Hey Andy,
My 'hit' is a page visited... so with a 80% fill rate i'm getting like 30k+ impressions. Since i started this thread my traffic did grow to about 6.5k uniques and 50k+ hits.. I account for all my traffic so no bots (or hardly any).
BUT something interesting happened lately. I didnt realise the default setting for Admob EXCLUDED image ads.. I activated image ads and ad impressions, Fill rate and CTR went up as well as eCPM to around $1... not fantastic but not too shabby..

eCPM at $1 is really nice , just be careful with CTR , The more the CTR the more suspicious everything gets

$1 eCPM isn't nice.
I would rather show a thousand links to my sites, have the weight of them as part of my SEO strategy and stand a chance of pulling in some kind of off site conversion than make so little cash from those impressions.
I'd dump AdMob for Dada affiliate links at $8 per conversion. s*xgoesmobile.com for adult videos and try out some casino downloads if I were in your shoes.

All one needs to do is make the man with a midas touch speak - then stay back and read . Andymoore is possibly the best guide here at traffic making and monetization.

Try some of the affiliate programs and lead gen offers that are emerging on mobile. We have massively increased revenue recently by switching to a lead gen CPA program instead of admob for US traffic. I've made a directory of all the different CPA networks and programs at http://mobyaffiliates.com if you are interested. Mobpartner (http://mobyaffiliates.com/networks/mobpartner) can also be good if you pick the right offers and the right way to promote them ...

Hi, I would recommend MobileRevs.com Adult Affiliate program for adult / Glamour videos etc.. They pay 60-90% depending on how much traffic and revenue you make, the minimum is 60% so pretty good and converts well, especially for european traffic.
Good Luck
