Who knows when all the geo names will be awarded. In the meantime, why wait?

The 125 foot statue Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro is one of the new Seven Wonders. All of these recent announcements are sure to increase tourism.

But Rio de Janerio is also known for other natural beauty.

Newfound emphasis on ancient archeoligical wonders like the Mayan and Incan ruins found in Central America and Peru will give added focus to a region often referred to as Pan America and includes the Pan American highway.

The selection of the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru is an incredible site, one that I would hope to see in my life time.

In the meantime I will be glad to have this GeoGem of Incan.mobi

Nice ones, Gerry! :fisheye:

Your GoRio would go nicely with my iRio, eRio, and mRio -- between the two of us, we'd have it all covered until someone takes Rio.mobi...

Rio...what year will that be released? And to whom?

I think the south American market will grasp mobi nicely and with passion...like they do everything else.

At some point I have to stop regging but I still stumble on what I perceive potentially good names. Many times, OVT is not even a factor.

If it makes sense, it makes sense.

Well, I've had the "i" for a while, so if you were looking recently, it wouldn't have been there anyway. The "e" and "m" I just took in the past few weeks while digging through all the Portuguese possibilities.

I think Rio.mobi is in that list of reserved names available for local governments and their associated developers to apply for starting this fall, so Rio could be handed over to someone any time after that, I guess.

Who and how many nations or even corporations could lay claim to this?

I would assume that Rio Brazil would be a logical choice, but this is a purely generic spanish word meaning River. So it will be interesting to see who gets what and when they will be decided upon.

I think in some cases it will be quite contentious.

Rio de Janeiro gets that name but do they get Rio also???

That is the kazillion dollar questione, si?

rio is a spanish/portuguse word that, as u said, means river
i believe the only explanation to be a reserved name is that they thought of rio as what it is really known... the synonym of rio de janeiro, actually it is an abbreviation of the name.
i think there isnt another city in the world that is known as rio (correct me if im wrong) and as it is a LLL imagine its value and it would be developed only if it was reg'd by a developer and the site can be in portuguese and english and we know that portuguese is very difficult and they want to pread out .mobi then it is better thatn rio.mobi be developed by someone who speaks both languages. it wouldnt be good for everbody if someone reg it and just stay sat waiting for higher values while time goes by. i think rio de janeiro will have both names.
BTW Gerry "Posto9" is a nice one, as "PepeBeach" is

regards,
bricioYes, I know. I want to go there. I think in my head I am Italian, in my heart I am French, and other parts of my anatomy may be Brazilian.

I have been doing much reading and research on Brazil and Portugal. I love Fado music and one of my favorite groups is Madredeus.

And to you, Bricio and Andres, and to other members from Brazil and to a nation...BRAVO for being one of the New Seven Wonders.

:adore:The other 6 are sunbathing on Ipanema!

Gerry,

I come from a town called lousa. It's near coimbra where fados originally come from. I love fados!!Christina Branco, Dulce Pontes, Misia, Miriza, Ana Moura, Teresa Salguerio, Maria Rodriques, are some that I listen to. Christina Branco is spectacular. I have nearly everything that Madredeus released as well as their sessions with Teresa Salguerio.

Very special and moving music. My wife and I are also hoping to make Lisbon and Portugal a stop on our next trip to Europe but the dollar is taking such a beating. It is just not a good time to go. We were thinking this late August-early September. Our plans were to fly to England, then to Vienna, Nothern Italy from Venice to Verona (opera season at the Arean Di Verona), then to Florence, Pisa, Genoa, Barcelona, and Lisbon, back to London. About 3-4 weeks total.

But, we'll wait. Perhaps low airfares in the spring would be nice. No rush. Plenty to do. Plus, if I sat in a dimly lit nightclub listening to Fado and dancing with my beautiful wife, we may never leave.

By the way, I already checked...fado.mobi and fados.mobi are already regged.

Those are some great artists! I would definately wait until September or October. My fiancee and I went last October. We did a road trip down to the Algarve. In October, the waters were still nice to go swimming in and all the tourists are gone. It really is a good time of year to visit.

Yeah I checked fado(s) a while back... they were gone :(

You can definately lose track of time sitting in one of those cafes!

Yes, my program is very user friendly...ME!

The program was MS Photodraw. Came out in 1999 and I think gone in less than 2 years. For me, it is a breeze.

I am currently taking coursework online for Macromedia (Adobe) CS3 including Fireworks 8 at present.

I think every graphics package has a steep learning curve initially. But after using this so long and knowing all the ins and outs, it is so quick for me and easy for me.

PM me if you need more info.
