Needless to say, with the announcement of the final picks for the Seven Wonders of the world, those babies were long gone.
The selection of the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru is an incredible site, one that I would hope to see in my life time.
In the meantime I will be glad to have this GeoGem of Incan.mobi

I was thinking about that earlier today...good foresight, GerryThanks, buddy, but it is actually hindsight.
Everything was taken for most, even in every extension including those that did not make the cut.
I was looking at news before turning in and saw the results. So at about 3am I was digging for regs (about the same time I noticed you guys digging for active sites). Man, slim pickings.
But to me (and hopefully to billions) this represents a culture, art form, history, and potential tourism .mobi site.
psst...I did reg 23 other names. Just don't have the graphics up yet. Some I can't reveal.

Gerry, you should seriously consider selling your artistic talent. Seriously... Some of your site logos (including these ones) are downright amazing :)

Gerry, you should seriously consider selling your artistic talent. Seriously... Some of your site logos (including these ones) are downright amazing :)Thanks for the compliments, one day I will, but right now more interested in the "bartering" system...trading services for services. I need sites, people need logos, some folks need translations...there is a hell of a core group here and tremendous talent, concepts, and capabilities represented. Powerful Mojo!

Those logos are amazing, Gerry. Did you use fireworks for it?

Those logos are amazing, Gerry. Did you use fireworks for it?No, but I am learning fireworks at present. The software I use is MS Photodraw which is not even available any more and was only out for perhaps a year 1999-2000.
This is so easy for me sometimes, especially if I am doing it for myself.
One thing I would like to point out...I have been in advertising in some form or capacity for 30 years. I am an award winning artist (designer, illustrator, painter) having won many advertising awards and cash for some of the fine arts shows (oil painting and watercolor). My former (and even some present) clients is a who's who of both national and international fame with a couple being in the Fortune 50 (I think they may still be there?)
So it wasn't just one product, one item, one service or even one nation that I had to market to or study. Therein lies the want and need even to this day to monitor international trends and markets as well as technology. That is what has brought many of us to this forum...a vision. That is where it all starts; as a concept and idea.
I have also taught art and photography on the college level for years. But burn out, buy outs, mergers, forced takeovers, bankruptcy and so on in the mid to late 80's led me to consider alternatives. That is when I decided to go back to college and pursue a medical career. I am still often consulted by former colleagues and even new ones. Once people in the medical centers realize what my former experience is then of course they want me on many and all committees, planning boards etc. I do not have time for this.
Design and composition is difficult to teach. Today there is software by the hundreds that enable people to call them selves designers and artists and web artist and such. But it does not teach design, composition, layout...templates and all the little tools do this, many times poorly. Ask someone what kerfing is or the difference between a pica and a point. Or something simple like what are the primary colors, complimentary colors, name the colors used in offset printing. They don't know, there is no need to know.
I hate to date myself, but in the early to mid 80's, there was no such software. You created the fonts, the images, and the artwork inside the computers. Primarily we worked on Macs. For photo, digital enhancement, google SciTex. Only the US Army and the Israeli military had this before it became available to the ad industry. Then it filled an entire room, only trained techs were allowed to use it, and it cost millions of dollars.
Today, most of your basic graphics packages for $9.99 can do most of what it did.
It is so much easier teaching someone who is a trained artist/designer how to use graphics software than it is to take someone and teach them design and composition.
I will be more than happy to help anyone get going in the right direction, time permitting.
I am taking an online course for Fireworks and then will be doing Dreamweaver and Flash. My weakness is programming, not graphics. Once I get these two combined and energized (graphics and programming) look out. I'll be blazing a trail.

Wow, Gerry, I had no idea. No wonder your work looks so amazing.Thank you. There are many other very good artists out there, and I am sure many on this forum. Was not really intending on touting my own horn (a little) but I wanted to just give some people the idea of who and what is represented on this forum.
I have been overwhelmed at not only the domains and sites but the talent and the passion shown by so many.
I will be the first to say I HATE FORUMS WITH A PASSION and have avoided them for years.
But I like it here. And I see some good things on the horizon.
Hey Jerry, I just knew you were cool! Now it is confirmed. Great insight mixed with several inherent talents!
The synergy shaping up in this forum is absolutely incredible!!! :top:
