Right then, I would like some serious advice please.

Scenario:

I have two domin names that are absolutely perfect for mobile gambling, placing bets, etc., in the US market (and we all know how big the US market is for gambling). Problem is that I am a complete newby to developing such sites, whether .mobi or otherwise.

I foresee the sites being used to check best odds, newsflashes when odds change, etc., and of course being used to act as an agent for other sites so people can place their bets with them.

Now I know this can be done, but my first problem is how?

Then I have another problem that is at the heart of the reason many many more domains are not developed, the costs involved and the lack of financial resources to meet the costs.

Does anyone know of a .mobi developer who works for a percentage?

Now that should get you all rolling in the aisles.

Moved to Developer Wanted area. Good luck with your search, i don't know of any myself but maybe it would help if you could be very specific of the business model and the income potential. I can understand the concern of a developer not wanting to do a bunch of work and get nowhere financially.

also, there may be some legal concerns with online gambling in the US. There always seems to be workarounds if you look for them but be careful, I doubt you want to end up like this guy. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/18/world/18cnd-gamble.html?ex=1310875200&en=068aa40a75dedf4e&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

I'm not a developer. But I would say be very careful of what you do in the US with gambling. Yahoo and Google are turning over hundreds of millions to the US goverment today because of gambling advertising. As long as Bush is the president I wouldn't do a thing. If a republican is elected you may be screwed also.

You could use rss to feed the templated mobile site with odds/prices that are constantly updated from sportsbetting sites in the US and or offshore.

You may need to do some research into sports betting companies in the US/offshore and possibly become an affiliate as they start branching out into mobile. I am sorry to say that I don't know of any that are currently doing this but that doesn't mean to say there aren't any.

As to the developer I am afraid that I can't help, not being one myself, however Seanboy is an excellent developer and currently investigating a similar solution for myself so he may be able to give you more insight as to potential costs.

Perhaps you can check out sportsbook.mobi. It would give you a very good idea on the development plans for offering odds and bets on various areas of interest.
A good, successful and proven market, if you can crack, would be the UK market. People are pretty hooked on to the web and lotto and some form of betting and last year people in UK spent close to $1 billion on purchasing goods and services using a mobile interface.
Plenty of ways you can get the ball rolling.
We have a lot of good experienced developers around here.

To second what other members have already said. Just be careful of how you develope because of the US laws on internet gaming. It sucks that it has to be the way it is but the law is the law (at least for now). Good luck with your plans.

And yes, what is the name?

Hello The Bald One :laugh::ciao:

I'm currently in the same boat as you. I still have quite a bit of reading to do myself regarding some US laws and gambling. Myself, I reside in Canada so the laws here are a little more flexbile.

The domain I want to develop is WirelessHoldem.mobi. I'm not to sure on it's strength. I think it's a pretty good domain and has potential but maybe others here can provide some feedback.

P.S.

No I am not trying to hijack this thread just found it funny that me and The Bald One are sort of in the same boat.
