I have spoken with 3 ppl today about .mobi.. none of them heard anything about it before today.

They say, they will never use it for tv, movies, videos, sites, or anything like that. They say, thats 'stupid' . They say, they will use it for driving directions, call family, contact tow company etc, but can not imagine playing games on it, visiting sites, buying things, or gambling on it.

I am suddenly feeling the same way I did way back in 1998 when I told my family I wanted to buy domain names. "Why?? What for?? I will never use the web for buying things, watching tv, watching videos, or anything else! Thats's stupid! You are wasting your money!"

Wow, is this a reality check or what? Are we really here, in the beginning of something spectacular? Again? Is this really the bottom floor of a 1000 story building?

I listened to them back then, and I missed on a lot of really great names. Mary.com, Shop.com, Cool.om and many more that were available then for $70 or more. I am not going to miss this chance, and listening to these people, who all have mobile phones, tell me they have no idea what I am talking about and will never use these sites.. its like da ja vous!

I am getting more excited every time I hear some one say, they have no idea what I am talking about lol

I told them all, we will have this conversation again in 5 years, then they can tell me how 'stupid' it was lol

Mej, thanks for sharing your experiences. I think a lot of people don't understand right now but in time they will. A few years from now your friends will see an ad somewhere about a new .mobi site and maybe they will recall your conversation and think, "oh, that's what Mej was talking about, now I get it!".

I was seriously ridiculed for buying domains in the early 90's. I'm glad I did what I did and I should have done a whole lot more. Water under the bridge now but .mobi is a completely new opportunity.

I wish I had not listened back then. I did start getting some names later in the year and early 1999, but they were not THE names, the slamming million dollar names that were available then.

I have not done poorly, but if I had followed my instincts then , and not listened, Id' be typing this from my 70 foot yacht in the bahamas right now lol

Agreed. Not many new about .com's when they were released. And now, hardly anybody knows about .mobi. Will .mobi become as big as .com, prolly not. However, I feel that those that chose to invest will profit greatly!

Did you really see Shop.com available for $70 at one point? MAN oh man, that would be a hard one to look back on... :banghead:

I only briefly considered the idea of getting a domain back then, but didn't take the time to look further into it...

My dad was told by a lawyer about domain names back in the '88... I was a kid at the time. Really wish he would have listened to the lawyer's advice :(

I've got autorecovery.mobi and it gets zilch traffic as yet - I guess your friends didn't want to tell you that they are addicted to watching PORN on their phones, 'cos that's where the bulk of (my) traffic is atm! :laugh:
