Just read this clip on the DNJournal Report Covering the SedoPro Partner's Forum Gathering in June. Produced here Verbatim from the site and Link:

"Ripe Domain Investment Opportunities Within the Next Five Years" conduced by Sedo CEO Tim Schumacher. Noting that 70% of Internet users do not speak English, Schumacher views IDNs as a good opportunity. Using stock market
terminology, he also rated major ccTLDs including .us as "buys" along with .info, .mobi and long tail .coms (.com domains that define narrow but very targeted commercial segments). Schumacher said he has downgraded .eu from buy to hold, and also rates .com and .net as holds as recent price increases may temporarily dampen the upside on those old standbys. Schumacher's sell category includes .biz, .cc, .ws and .tv. "
Ouch...that's sure to fire up some old timers....

Yeah...that would be good for a few flames if posted at NP, huh?

He must have been reading some of my earlier posts...IDN's, non-english speakers, .mobi and global opportunities.
He must have missed my post on getting rid of .eu. Not even a hold unless ultra-premium.
Okay, gotta go to work.
By the way, it's good news.
YIPPEE!

 Oh, it might be fun, but probably not worth the grief...it would probably just end up as a deleted thread anyway...

I've never been a fan of IDN's, but dares are always nice. I triple dare ya!

I like the opportunities that IDN's represent.
There are those that disdain them.
But with China's push to adopt them followed by India, it's a done deal and going to happen.
Plus, as of October, the .es (Spain) registry will be adopting them.
That is why I think mobi(le) will ultimately be the tie in for all extensions.
I have perhaps 100 or so, mostly Chinese with a few Japanese and arabic.
I agree with Tim's assessment regarding the old timers. I am one of them. But I am also not content to the point of having tunnel vision and can not see the evolution of the internet.
The internet is great, it has been great for commerce. But countries are after their own identity. That is why there are more than 250 ccTLD's. But now that is not good enough.
They want to be able to communicate in their own language.
So IDN's are potentially just as worthwhile investment as .mobi. But IDN's are a little tricky and definitely need assistance with native speakers. One character can take on numerous meanings.
Also, don't forget or overlook numbers in the scheme of things. No translation needed, numbers have same value numerically speaking, but all keyboards will have numbers no matter which language they are configured in. That is why numbers don't really have to have any meaning at all. An example is my 6337.mobi which corresponds to ODDS, but only to english speakers. Lord only know what it may represent phonetically to any hundred or so different languages. The reality of it, it does not have to represent or say anything. It is a four digit mobi domain name. That is all it has to be in its entirety.
No one, not even ICANN can prevent the adoption of China and India going IDN with native characterization. China is big enough and powerful enough politically and economically to take control of their own internet. Try telling 1.5 billion people that they have to communicate in English and only on .com.
On the contrary, China has mandated to all government offices and official organization to stop using .com and use only .cn. Look for this to become the standard of all of China after the Olympics in Beijing next year.
I think it is very important if not crucial for us to pay attention to global markets and find increasing opportunity not only for .mobi but for other markets and extenstions as well.
I think this is a great multilingual and multinational forum that can benefit one another in finding these opportunities.
Looking for strong generics in native languages is a bonus to new comers. With the help of the likes of members of Andres and Bricio and DareV and so many others, there is incredible opportunity out there.
And keep your eyes on the .in and .cn movements.
And, addressing those old timers, I would only have to say that it is not too late to open your eyes and look around you but more importantly look overseas.
For those that think that IDN's and .mobi are not a threat in due time to .com's market share and traffic, then they might as well continue to bitch about it, argue it and raise hell about how wrong I am. The whole time while they play the same song, the internet and global conditions will move forward with out their consent or blessings and, in fact, won't even be heard outside the forums.
Okay, enough of that. Back to work, for me that is.
Y'all go right on ahead playing. I'm up in in Mayberry, NC.
Goober says "hey!"
His domain ratings was once posted at NP a while ago. I think he had .mobi as "sell" back then.

They'll all come around eventually.
Reminds me of a Frank Schilling quote where he states that when .mobi's become valuable, he will buy them then.

Perhaps now Sedo will come to their senses and include this as a gTLD rather than bury it down the list in with the 250 ccTLD's.
