Sounds similar to what Opera mini and Mowser.com are trying to do. These methods can be useful when absolutely needed but from my experience don't come close to the user experience of visiting a site truly designed for mobile. The fact that vodaphone is involved isn't bothersome for me at all because it just means they are trying to service the varied needs of their customers.

When the site is actually "shrunk" down, I don't think it will look as good as they claim. When you have a full-blown site and shrink it down, I envision lots of squinting and what have you. Many people think stuff like this will kill .mobi, however, I believe as long as .mobi is advertised and developed, it will sucees no matter what.

Forget about the user and think about the developers. Every developer wants to be in control of how their website is displayed to their users. A program that downsamples a website is, by definition, controlling, and deciding how your site will display to your users. These downsampling solutions are a stepping stone to a full-blown mobile internet. When the mobile internet is in full force, they will no longer be needed. Once again, guys, development of your .mobi's is key.

But they do have a vodafone.mobi site.

So I am not sure what the point to all this is.

Plus the original article was posted in someone's blog.

We can all do that...create our own blog and give our perception on this whether agreeable or not.

So I am not sure what the big deal is other than just someone else's contempt to .mobi.

Vodafone.com...vodafone.mobi

Two formats. YIPPEE!

Okay, just got off work, check the forums, go to bed, get up, check the forums, go to work.

Life is swell.
