Hi folks,

Would you be interested in registering your .mobi's via Mobility if we got a Domain Reseller account (e.g. with GoDaddy, eNom, etc.) that allowed you to register your .mobi's for the cheapest prices available? We'd set the absolute lowest price allowed to save you the most money. The idea arose after seeing GoDaddy reseller's able to offer .mobi's for only $7.99 via a promotion, which is cheaper than pretty much anywhere else.

Let me know if this is something you guys would not only be interested in but would actually use, since there is a cost involved in becoming a reseller.

Thanks!

Andres, that's a great idea, and also a good way to monetize mobility which we all agree you deserve. My only request is that you get a plan which includes free privacy in light of recent events on domaintools. Currently, the discount domain club offers free privacy. Also, I believe directi offers free privacy as well but you may want to check to see if that is always available.

Good thinking!

Good thinking! Thanks for your feedback, coast. The monetization isn't too much of a concern because the margins on setting the lowest price possible will be tiny, but it's not about making money anyway, it's about giving more value to Mobility members.

Do you happen to have the links to registrars with free privacy so I can check out their reseller program?

Also, what do you guys prefer, cheaper prices (e.g. GoDaddy), safer registrar (e.g. eNom), free privacy (e.g. discount domain club), or something else?

Thanks again, keep the feedback coming.

The best prices would be great come renewal time but privacy seems to be a must as of late. 7.99 + privacy looks great. Keep us posted.

Like it, for me the privacy would be a priority.

Looking ahead, benefits like this are a good way to ensure members want to stay and so maintain good conduct on the site as it grows.

Andres,

As far as I know (not sure, but I think a noticed that somewhere) there is no Domain Forwarding and no Email-Forwarding included at Reseller-Club rates (all only available at extra costs). This you have included at GoDaddy/WildWestDomains ....

Additionally you always have to load the account with money in advance from creditcard - if no money or not enough money uploaded in advance you will have problems in "Real-Time" Registration of Domains (failed registrations ...)

It looks like 7.99 registration-costs are "just" promotion at both, Godaddy and Reseller-Club, so costs at the end of promo or at renewal dates are import. 19.99 at Reseller-Club, ??? at GoDaddy ...

I have a GoDaddy reseller account. But times it is hard to beat straight deals offered by known firms, Like Monte and Moniker.

I would be most interested in the lowest possible cost for renewals. Got many of those coming up.

The main thing would be a standard low price, rather than "deals" that are periodic.

Andres, time to call Monte?

Transferring many domains out of my accounts to Moniker. Will be glad to take the .mobi's for a ride to Moniker.

Club price? Member deals?

Hey, anything as long as it is safe, secure, and easily accessible.

With many of us looking at re-newing our names next september onwards, we need the best deal around! and why not as the average member here has at least XX (possibly XXX???!!!) names to their account I'm sure!
I would like to see something like this happen Great initiative Andres!

That's a very good point -- I'd vote with going with whichever (safe and secure) plan can give us the lowest renewal rates!

The above are all good points. Low prices are important to me, but so are things like customer service, security, support, etc. I'm sure all of us have stumbled across an available mobi and wanted to reg it immediately, or had some issue come up that needs to be addressed quickly. I could forsee having problems with a no-frills registrar, which would be frustrating. Mine are all with Moniker--maybe a little more expensive, but I like the peace of mind that comes from using them. Just my two cents.

my names are all with godaddy and i have found them to be secure..they just lack the customer service i have found since dealing with moniker and most importantly the recognition of the .mobi ext at moniker seems more up to date and i believe IMHO that moniker would get behind this with the best deal for us. Godaddy truly dont deserve my hundreds of domains...if there wasnt a price rise to transfer domains or i had the spare $$$ ide be out of godaddy in a flash. I have had a few problems with the way they handle customer support and lost 1 name there, a .com because they pass the buck when it comes to problems. Their sytem gives the same problem to a new staff member EVERY SINGLE time you reply back...theres a new person takes over the same problem and you dont get the speedy help moniker gives you...well thats what ive found. As far as this idea goes, im surprised it wasn't already happning here, as well as an auctions of our own. Hence i mentioned that eregistrar.mobi and a few others that were available as far as i know.....when i went through enom or verisign with .tv i had getnet.tv set up as a registrar.....with small profit margines as you speak of Andres, im sure this would be a great idea for mobility or anyone to set up and godaddy, etc could all be cut out of the picture. We have our own registrar, appraisal/valuations..auctions, the lot. Hook in developers, hosting with this forum etc etc etc anyway that was my plan. My .mobi web i plan to have IT! Theres an avalanche of people to reg .mobi domains yet, why shouldnt we regulate prices to the best possible deals and evaluations that are in perspective, let the world know we didnt just stumble into this like the .com revolution, WE WERE AHEAD OF IT! Anyway ive said too much and probably not enough, addios my friends.

As Gerry quite rightly touched on, it will be the renewals that will sting not the actual regging of domains.

Wow...do you have to ask this ? Ofcourse !!!!!!!!!!! Although a cheaper renew fee would benefit me even more. Is that also possible as a reseller ?

Great idea Andres.

Andres, it seems to be that cheap renewals at a reputable registrar would help us more than anything. Thanks again for looking out for mobility and its members.

Also the renewal cost of privacy matters - it might only be free for a year, or free for as many years as you reg for initially, or it might be a flat rate all along.

What about becoming a discreet registrar?

I think privacy is important also. Think of how much spam would come our way (or worse) without it.

why not have your own registrar here? Im sure as time goes on mobility or you Andres will make some money to help with costs etc. Ide start regging names from here if it was possible. Theres hundreds of thousands (millions) of .mobi to be registered in the next 1-10 years, why not? As i said, together we could do it all here. The source for all your .mobi needs is found here, almost anyway.
