Is it even worth it to have coloured backgrounds? Are they viewable on a mobile or PDA?

Depends entirely on the device. My cheesy little nokia does a nicer job of displaying sites than my wife's Blackberry except for the screen size. But phones like the Blackjack look awesome. With thousands of phones out there you can't really predict how your site will look on all of them. One thing to consider though is that muted colors can be difficult to see when using a phone in bright light.

Hmmm ok, thanks for the info. All my sites have a white background and I think I'll leave them that way, it doesn't take away from anything.
