Tim, you conveniently left out the political affiliation of the sponsors...Assembly Member Nancy Skinner (D) and Assembly Member Charles M. Calderon (D)... (And you want to blame Republicans for all that ails you... )

To be completely honest, I expect this is just the tip of the iceberg, with the state clamoring for more money and the Democrats completely unwilling to make serious cuts to govt services, taxation and borrowing are the only options remaining. Taxation will further stagnate the states economy but the Dems and Arnold don't seem to care, and more borrowing will further cripple future generations, which again the Dems and Arnold don't seem to care. The suckers bet right now is believing the temporary tax increases will in fact be temporary, I've witnessed the lies and broken promises before. Ultimately I think the only way out of this is a Governor willing to stand on his/her principles and not sign a spending bill that is not truly balanced, even if the state comes to a grinding halt. I had hopes that Arnold would actually be such a person but his lust for being popular won over. Now unfortunately it is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better, people really need to feel the bleed out of their wallets to finally care as happened with his Grayness. Unfortunately though it won't last in that at the local level the Dems in highly populated areas usually win the elections because they promise money for votes and people are suckers to believe it thinking they will get something for nothing.

Is it because I reported this that people aren't taking it seriously? Do you get the gist of what is going on here? There is a bill in CA and HI (and one already passed in NY) to force companies to charge taxes on internet purchases even if the company is not domiciled in the state. It's the internet tax and it is going to have very big ramifications if it goes through. No one here is an affiliate?

I take it quite seriously Tim, though I admit to being confused that a hard core Obama supporter is upset about taxes when it is clear that someone has to pay for all this bigger govt. I understand this is a state tax vs federal, but still the principle involved is the same. Socialism is great until you're the one who has to pay for it.

As for the issue at hand, the tax tactic follows a reasonable thought process... as an affiliate you are essentially the salesperson for the company and are creating their in-state presence. Frankly I'm surprised it took the buffoons in the state govt this long to figure this one out.

I'll participate in efforts to try and stop it but I'll be surprised if these efforts are effective, big govt is eager to find fresh meat to pay for all those bleeding heart programs and labor deals and we're it.

Tim you & this thread is Google #5 Results 1 - 10 of about 286,000 for 'california state bill 178' search right now.

Agree, this will cause the online business affiliate partners in CA to go out of business & decrease in income tax can create negative ramifications to state in return. I really wonder about the aftermath of what happened in NY since the bill passed. Do you have more info Tim?

:laugh::laugh: As I said long ago, I didn't like either candidate and was choosing between the lesser of two evils. The loss for me happened well before November. 8 years... we'll see
