Good to see some sales are still happening! I may try putting some names up for TRAFFIC in April but the 'low reserve' requirements to get names listed worry me... especially after what happened in the last sale - some great names went for a pittance!

I'd hold off on your best names, Gary, if you can....

I mean, Funds & Shoes at less that 5k....and, Auto at less than 4k....:confused2:

I agree that the results were quite low, but once the monetization opportunities become clearer for mobile web in general names like these will skyrocket in value IMO.

Does anyone have any 'clearer' vision regarding monetization? I'm confident that it will happen but still waiting for clues! :rolleyes2:

Well, perhaps it is not wise for domainers to be too concerned about this aspect.

dot Mobi has every intention of being used as a viable extension by consumers. If there were ever a domain for users, this is it.

Personally, I think the site itself has to become a success and then the monitization will be in the form of direct ads.

Just as there are channels to display ads, advertisers can specify whether they want their ads on mobile sites or not. This is a positive step in to the acceptance of mobile sites being a viable media (medium).

I look at sites that some here are creating and see their success coming first in the form of great dynamic sites then worrying about monitizing later.

I think Andy's artist network of musical artists is a good example. It was designed to be a network and that in itself is powerful mojo. One site with unknown subsites each linking to each other and to the main site creating his own network.

There has to be a plan to get attention and ranking first, in my opinion.

Keeping with my beleif that domainers hate it because they can not make any money from it, well...I say screw domainers.

I honestly do not think that "how am I going to make money off of this" should not be concern one. Concern one should be relevant content and adoption. You can monitize the hell out of something but if no one uses it then what's the point?

Become an entrepreneur, learn development skills, learn SEO, learn how to market and promote, and one you have achieved success on those levels then people will be coming to you.

The traffic/ad rev model can certainly work, but I'm thinking the much stronger future will be found when affiliate programs are available to mobile site owners. This is why I feel the efforts of Newton and Rob in the adult arena are so pivotal, they are: 1) selling a product via mobile web; 2) offering affiliate income opportunities; and 3) doing it all on a .mobi domain. This is not the act of ordinary domainers but of people with vision to go far beyond the ordinary to take mobile web to new heights and doing so with .mobi in mind. Regardless of how one may feel about the adult industry, they are making a fundamental shift for the .mobi community. I know they are not alone, more will be coming shortly in other industries, stay tuned...

You are so correct by stating this is not an act of domainers but of people with vision.

That is what is so phenominal about this forum.

Honestly, it is about 2 years ahead with mainstream thinking of the US market base.

Very true.

Amazon provide this kind of option now, which I use for some of my .mobi domains. They are one of the few (outside adult) that provide fantastic content for mobile. I'm not making much money from Amazon yet, but, when someone visits the site, they see a lot of relevant stuff to their interests. And, that has to be good.

Also, with Spa.mobi, I've deliberately built in no monetization. Its purely an info service, at this stage.....The thinking being, that as people get used to using this as a mobile information source, and gateway source - and traffic builds - then monetization options will emerge, and become possible.
