I am working on some plans for this as a form of a directory.

Sample here:

http://ceuq.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61&Itemid=157

And I have registered a few domains for this purpose...a visual directory.

Plus, unquestionably every time it is listed it is indexed.

Since .mobi sites resolve on computers, I would say yes. That said, google is cracking down on paid directories, plus you want to avoid linking to and from anything with worse pagerank than your site already has.

Let us know what happens.

Can .mobi domains be used, optimized (seo'd) just like .coms? I'm considering purchasing some .mobi domains, I just want to know if I build a site on a .mobi, is it the same thing as a .com as far as structure, optimization, etc...
I know they are for mobile devices, but are they just as compatible on PC's, Macs, desktops, etc...?

Apparentley Google are indexing .mobi sites that can auto detect PC access. So i would say it is happening and over the last 3 months there has been a steady rise of unique hits on some of my sites. Most of the OS accessing my sites have been from PDA's to Safari and a few others. Internet Explorer are quite low on these stats.

Welcome to Mobility allicia

Not too clear what you're asking though. Yes, mobi sites are for mobile devices. The best test we have is utilize the tools that mTLD offer such as deviceatlas or dev.mobi to help in building a mobile compliant site. If you're more of a novice like myself, you can check out site.mobi (free online sitebuilder tool)

One of the best things that I like about mobi sites are, although they're designed for mobile screens, PC visitors can (and will) also become part of your traffic. You can utilize auto detect and send them to a full site, but I prefer to let them kow it's a mobile site. Am I loosing out on ad space? For now, I am. But 'm helping to educate the masses each time they visit.

Several of my mobi sites have much larger PC visitor base than mobile. The majority of these visitors get there through Google or Yahoo. They index quite well for specific keywords I target. I've had an ongoing experiment you can check out here (http://mobility.mobi/showthread.php?t=4851) tracking results.
