How about doing something with the ridiculous $10.95 renewal at moniker?
If I can transfer for the amount quoted and that includes a year added, then unquestionably gouging renewals is an issue.
So let's get on the same page that Moniker wants to gain and wants to KEEP our business!

yes, i would like to see renewals come way down as well.
i have nearly 500 .mobi domains at Moniker currently and i will be shopping around for the registrar that offers me the cheapest .mobi renewals.. i really like moniker.. but i like my money too. ;)

Oh, and welcome to Mobility. :)
And I just got a Christmas Card from Moniker with your card in it as being my account manager.
Pleased to me you.
And I too like Moniker but also like to spend thrifty right now.
Moniker I think has unquestionably the best prices for .net reg and renewal, very competitive with .com as well, but on the high end with .mobi reg and renewal.
I would like to see Moniker go back to the days of special pricing and renewals across the board. There was a time when I felt I had value added service because Moniker recognized that domainers are their bread and butter.
Going back to that business model would be absolutely the right and proper thing to do. Monte was on this forum and others to personally address issues and concerns.
I see very little from any registrar or parking rep in this regard now.
Getting back to basics and your core business is paramount, in my opinion.

It’s a pleasure to meet you as well. Getting back to basics and our core business is paramount, and it is exactly what Monte and the rest of the team are doing!
I can’t/won’t make any promises however let me see if there’s anything I can do about the $10.95 renewal rate. YES, if you transfer that does include a year of registration services.
Thanks

bari, the renewal rate needs to be sub $9, like now
btw name.com is offering mobi regged for $5.95, its temporary, but theres a lot of competition out there
moniker went deliberately deaf on this around the renewal period, now its over and what with all the problems we've all experienced at moniker recently, its really something we expect, not ask.
no pressure then :coo2l:

I would like to add that I genuinely appreciate anyone who represents our interests to take the time to post on a forum and address our concerns.
It does not need to be a daily thing.
Yet it adds so much to the integrity of the business we are all involved in.

Transfers - $7.49

Hi Bari
I have around 300 at other registrars that I want to transfer into my Moniker account... but I probably won't be able to do it until early jan '09.. (some having been 'locked' due to having only recently been trasnsferred into their respective accounts)
Is this offer really just good 'til the end of the year or do you think we could have until the end of January?

Awesome! Please email me your Moniker account # to bari@moniker.com and I'll be sure to change your pricing in the system when you're ready to start transferring the names over! Let's start transferring the names that aren't locked and the ones that are, we can transfer when the registrar lock is up. The sooner the better!

$9.99 renewals sound better than 10.99... but i was thinking more like 8.99.... or $7.99 if theyre feeling generous. ;)
most registrars offer decent initial registration cost for .mobi.. and even good transfer deals, but if you can lock in 8.99 renewals on top of that i think that would catch a lot of people's attention, espesially on this forum.
i'll even throw in a *******
that means 'rep' on this forum :embarassed:

...Been a few strange issues around 'lost' domains during renewal processes at Moniker lately...Some worry a little that Moniker maybe ain't quite the rock-safe castle it once was...

Hi Bari-
I am another of your clients that hangs around here at Mobility - Remember the "Ghost Domains"? I still haven't gotten rid of them.
Anyway you haven't mentioned one of the best parts --- for new regs, at least, the $7.49 price works for two and three years, not just one. It is a way around the high renewal fee, at least if you've got the money.
Yeah, the transfer discount comes too late for landrush regs -- I moved a handful of the best to Moniker, but price caused me to shift most of my mobis to that big place. I will poke around and see if there are some I can move, but I am not keeping most of what remains.
Good to see you here

Let's get your entire .mobi portfolio over to Moniker! As for the issue you mentioned abotu the "lost" domains during renewal process... to be completely honest, I have never heard about it. Moniker is the safest registrar out there! We have never lost a name or had one stolen. Please contact me at Bari@moniker.com if this is something that has happened to you and I'll get with support and follow up. I can assure you that although we've had a few hiccups, Moniker is rock solid and we're not going anywhere - except up and up/bigger and better!

Hi,
Why does URL-forwoarding costs at Moniker so much per domain : 6 USD, and also 6 USD for emailforwoarding ? Elsewhere that's FREE, or bettter INCLUDED in the purchase of your .mobi-domain ? A domain costs then 7.49 + 6 URL-forwoarding = $ 13.49 (and then you haven't emailforwoardng yet). I've registerred a lot domains, and then I discoverred this. If I want to forwoard to a Free website I can make, it still costs me 6 USD extra per domain = $13.49 = a lot more then at GD where it's included, as I presume.
Please PM me on this question.

Kind of a newbie question here, sorry if there is a simple answer or if it has been discussed elsewhere.....
Does anyone handle the approximately $3 dollar difference between transfers and renewals by using two different registrars? Why not set up a Moniker account and a GoDaddy account and transfer from one to the other every year instead of renewing at the same registrar? I know it is a little more work, but when you are dealing with a large number of domains, the savings might justify it.
Alternatively, it might convince a registrar to discount the renewal by $3 if they realized they might lose all of your domains for a year otherwise....

Hi JJ
IMHO - It’s best to have all your domains under one registrar for better management. It's your responsibility to handle the $ difference between transfers/renewals by using two different registrars.
If you’re dealing with a dedicated rep at Moniker, you should have special pricing set up at all times – and the renewal and transfer rates stay the same each year as long as ICAAN doesn’t throw out a price increase!
Hit me up directly for more information! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for getting back so quickly Bari. I do have a dedicated rep at Moniker. My renewals are $2.50 more than transfers. Is Moniker willing to make renewals the same price as transfers if the alternative would be to lose an entire portfolio to a competitor offering a transfer special?
I really like Moniker, but it is about a $2,000 issue so I feel like I need to explore all possiblities.
Hope you have a great weekend too.

That is why I have not been too quick to transfer. With some godaddy coupons out there, renewals are much much cheaper than the standard transfer pricing.
Also, too many dang fresh regs from all the drops!

:adore: Now that is some business Moniker did get, Bari.

Having your domains registered with Moniker can/will benefit YOU! :top:Bari, I agree.
Not trying to make or break your business angle.
On the other hand, this is the sales pitch of all registrars.
In many cases, there are distinct differences.
Actually, the tipping point for me is NOW Moniker and SnapNames auctions are linked together. Believe me, this has not gone unnoticed by me! Submitting names to auction will now be a Snap!
I am not just into .mobi. So when I have thousands of domains and a hundred or so come up for renewal, it only stands to reason that between GoDaddy and Moniker - one or the other is going to get the business.
I am not a fan of GoDaddy (or one of Bob's groupies) but dollars off or 20%, 25%, or 30% total order can be a HUGE price point factor.

Gerry - I agree there are distinct differences between registrars! Why do think Moniker rocks? Trust me, it’s not (only) because I’m employed there and a participating board member (Although that does help yes?) LOL
Thanks for the shout on the new Moniker and SnapNames selling process. We’re all really VERY excited about it! This is now going to solidify Moniker as being the leaders in selling domains!
IF you have thousands of domains – currently NOT registered with Moniker, let’s talk about consolidating (over to Moniker) and getting you set up with some special pricing! Perhaps I can find a little bit of wiggle room for ya. Hit me up offline and let’s discuss.

Looks like the party is over. Whet to transfer some today and saw they're now at $14.95 each
Since this is 50% more than where they're at, money talks in these tough times, so unfortunately, they'll be staying put
But many thanks to Bari and Monte for helping out.

Send Jerzey Gal a PM... you might get a deal?
I won't talk out of place but my rep at the same registrar as the one that we are discussing (:coo2l:) was offering similar rates to the ones recently offered here by Jerzey gal....

I'm a believer that a company should put their best efforts towards obtaining and retaining customers. Either dosen't include me having to hunt down a rep to barter for a rate. Give me your best price and keep it there. I can understand a small increase from time to time, but asking me to pay $14.95 AND go through the timely transfer process while my alternative is paying under $10.00 and doing nothing is...absurd, IMHO.
I realize that this was a "limited time" offer, yet there was no email, no posting on their site nor any other sign that it was over...until I checked my cart. :argh:
Again, this is nothing against Bari...she's been very helpful with multiple issues and a gem to work with. Moniker needs to wake up and smell reality though. Asking me to pay a 50% premium to transfer my names from a registrar I've had no issues with is... :stupid:

Hey Everyone.......
Sorry for the delay in replying. I just returned from a 2 week business trip and today (just now in fact) I landed in NY for a family function.
Being out of touch, I wasn't aware nor was I informed the .mobi special had ended or I would have posted "one last call". However with that being said, it was a promo/special and unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
I'm back in the office Monday should anyone like to contact me directly to discuss this. Perhaps I can work some of my princess magic and continue with the reduced rates.
Please don't send me a PM or reply to me directly (on this thread) with questions as I won't have access to email again until Monday - when I'm back in Florida. Until then.....
Enjoy your weekend!

Yeah, I would have to agree that 14.95 is way to high to transfer domains when you can pay much less just to leave them where they are.

i echo this statement.. minus the lighthearted laughing emoticon.
and furthermore, tell Monte to stop playing stupid games with the .mobi prices... doubling them is just plain retarded and will cause me to leave Moniker completely with 500+ domains...
I KNOW what your wholesale prices for .mobi renewals/transfers are... Moniker needs to stop playing games and stick with a normal price or i promise you i will personally convince people on every forum to move to cheaper registrars.

Yes, real money is nothing to laugh about, just laughing at the foolishness of the decision by Moniker's management to behave this way. I'd hate to leave Moniker, I've been really happy with the service lately thanks in huge part to Bari. Yet a savings of $5/domain adds up when dealing with several hundred domains.
I'm already renewing domains elsewhere that I had planned to transfer to Moniker.
Also the price of the privacy service seems to have doubled, without warning - not attractive and not a good sign.
Yeah, how can Moniker still be considered the "domainer's registrar" when they rape us with their prices? It might not affect the little guy so much, but the big players will definitely be leaving Moniker more and more if they don't get more competitive prices.

I will go with whoever I have used before and also has the best value for money.
Moniker only has 110 of my mobi's and I may reg more there if the price for registration remains competitive, but as to transferring them in at $14+ dollars, it's not happening.
I realise that moniker is in this business to earn money and good luck to them, but we are here to get the best bang for our buck.
There are plenty of options to explore such as enom, directi, godaddy etc, and my thousands of mobi's will have to go somewhere over a period of time, for I am a complete domain ***** :D

Mjnels - I understand pricing is very important however it's not Monte. Our special deal/pricing from the .mobi registry ended...which is why pricing went back up. We did not double our prices.

Egnited - Moniker isn't raping anyone. We do offer competitive prices. We just don't give it away like other registrars do! I am aware that pricing is important however with that being said.....Moniker’s security, service/support, added value services and focus on Domain Asset Management are unsurpassed in the industry. Thanks for the morning laugh/flashback Blitzpotz.Oh, nothing to thank, this post honoured me. And - it´s not only the beauty of your avatar :rolleyes2: to salute, but the beauty of your style taking part in this forum like we other crazy mobi people do. And, hopefully, this song will be the hymn for stable, low prices for Mobis at Moniker. :embarassed: It´s serious: I recently wanted to move some other mobis to Moniker from another registrar, but a price doubler is too much. Look into the notice above on the site: Mobility moves to a better host. Wouldn´t it be a beauty, if the better registrar was (one of) the cheapest, too?
Cheers and good evening from Germany (and excuse my bad English)

Hey Gogo - Why are you transferring elsewhere and to where? Privacy rates did NOT double. They're still discounted at $2.00 per name.
Bari I'm glad to hear that you think that is the situation, but it has not been my experience. Perhaps Moniker will refund all the double charges I know know they were making? I'd be delighted to have the money back.
On one occasion before the price increase I paid $2.00 for the privacy, which was not applied. As an emergency measure I applied privacy from scratch, which suddenly cost $4.00. I asked for this $4.00 to be refunded. Only $2.00 was refunded, despite me repeatedly raising the issue. No point arguing beyond a point about $2.00 - but what if it was $2000 - the real loss is in confidence in Monikers systems - for example having raised a ticket and supplied the info, I then got an automated email saying more or less "if you don't reply to this we will close this ticket" so I replied repeating it all... and got no reply and the ticket was closed.
Room for improvement.
And no reason that I can see to charge so much for a transfer - there is no addtional cost to Moniker. Well, yes, a need to make profits, but I thought you were after volume and getting in new customers. The new customers aren't tied to you no matter how prettty the handcuffs on offer.

Gogo - ALL registrars charge for transfers. It's not only Moniker. As for the privacy increase you're talking about. IF there are instances where you were charged $4.00 vs. the discounted $2.00 I'd ask you to please open a help ticket within your Moniker account and send me the ticket #. I'd be more than happy to follow up and get you a refund IF there's one owed to you. I can assure you that privacy pricing hasn't gone up. You always see the discount at checkout. I can be reached directly at Bari@moniker.com if you'd like to take this offline. I'd be more than happy to investigate it for you.
Have a fantastic afternoon!
