Here's a sneak preview of a Press Release about to go out that Vance just sent me.

This is huge news for .mobi and a great strategy by mTLD. Mowser was definitely a good buy.

dotMobi drives mass market adoption
of the mobile Web with Instant Mobilizer

New product designed to open the mobile Web opportunity
to small businesses around the world

DUBLIN, Ireland and WASHINGTON, DC – Nov. 11, 2008 – dotMobi, the company behind the .mobi Internet domain designed to help consumers find Web content that works on mobile phones, today announced the channel release of Instant Mobilizer™, a patent-pending service created to help small and medium businesses around the world reach their customers quickly and affordably through the mobile Web.

According to IBM’s Institute of Business Value, 50% of global consumers would substitute their Internet usage on a PC for a mobile device, while 70% believe that the mobile Web has the potential to add significant-to-moderate value to their day-to-day lives. With Instant Mobilizer and a .mobi domain, tens of millions of small and medium-sized businesses can effortlessly interact with the 1.3 billion of potential customers connected to the Internet through mobile phones.

Without any need for technical knowledge or development efforts, Instant Mobilizer automatically converts a small business's existing PC site to ensure the best customer experience regardless of phone model or mobile carrier. Unlike other solutions, Instant Mobilizer gives users a branded, mobile-friendly site for their on-the-go customers, instead of leaving their Web site to be randomly transcoded by unknown operators or devices.

And every customer benefits from dotMobi's award-winning DeviceAtlas™ device database, which optimizes Instant Mobilizer sites using dotMobi best practices, so that every phone receives eye-catching results.

Trey Harvin, CEO of dotMobi, said, "Instant Mobilizer gives small businesses the ability to be literally in their customers' hands on a 24x7 basis, without the need for technical expertise or a hosting account. And given a recent Nielsen study that showed mobile Internet sites extend the reach of many leading PC-based sites by 13%, Instant Mobilizer is a very cost-effective way to differentiate your website from your competition."

Harvin added, "Instant Mobilizer seamlessly integrates many dotMobi technologies with the .mobi domain, providing high value for web sites owners and users."

Sensitive to small business needs
Sensitive to the fact that that there are more than 27 million small businesses in the U.S. and two-thirds of all workers in Europe are employed by small businesses, dotMobi has designed Instant Mobilizer to meet the needs of small business owners globally with such features as:

Immediate, easy access to key Web site information such as phone number and address
Automatic links to Google™ Maps
Quick phone number links that call your business with one click
Unique access to key features of your customers’ phones

Amy Mischler, dotMobi's VP of Identity and Brand Services, said, "In May of this year, dotMobi conducted joint research with marketing agency AKQA and discovered that customers want utility – not entertainment – out of the mobile Web like viewing maps, making restaurant reservations, checking schedules, and so on. Instant Mobilizer has been designed to meet these needs."

"One hot topic for the mobile Web has been 'discovery' – being found by search engines. Because the sites created with Instant Mobilizer use the .mobi domain, they are easily found by mobile search engines and thus by the customers that want to reach business, too," Mischler added.

dotMobi's Instant Mobilizer is being released via registrars basis across Europe and North America beginning in November 2008 and expanding to other markets thereafter. Domain registrars and resellers who have questions about deploying Instant Mobilizer may contact dotMobi's Director of Global Domain Sales Pinky Brand at pbrand@dotmobi.mobi (pbrand@dotmobi.mobi).

True. Good news for this domain extension. Great to hear about proactive moves from Dotmobi.
I still remember the famous blog post prior to the sale of Mowser, in which the author was very discouraged about the mobile web in general.

Sounds good, however I must add -- interesting time to release this news with the .mobi auction just about over...

This is indeed good news. Could go either way. If the right eyes see this news, the bidding just might climb...but putting it out hours before auction ending time certainly seems to be a big gamble.

Personally, I would of tied it to the beginning of the week long auction. More time for the big players to get ready and make choices. But hey..that's just me.

It's good long term news anyway you look at it. Mowser + mobi is a great fit, IMHO

Great use of their technology to further the brand. Now if they were to do the same thing for enforcing compliance, forcing non-compliant sites through mowser, the problem would be solved.

Thank you very much for this update Andres. This looks like the right kind of promotion at the right time for MTLD and Mobi. I look forward to hearing more about this product when it is rolled out by the registers this month.

Folks, I wanted to bump this news to make sure it didn't get lost on people.

Imagine millions of small business sites instantly mobilized via a .mobi. I don't know if you guys got a chance to see an example of this, but I saw a demonstration of this at the PAB meeting in Dublin in July, and the Instant Mobilizer preserves the look&feel of a PC site (e.g. color scheme), the logo (so the mobilized site stays branded), and if it finds any contact details (such as a phone number), it actually puts them at the very top with a click2call link so mobile users don't have to hunt for them. Brillian stuff, IMO. I think this will be big, and could greatly increase the number of live .mobi sites in a relatively short period of time (since all the SMB's have to do is register a .mobi and with a small fee, if even that, get their PC site instantly mobilized...no batteries required!).

Here's a perfect example:

PC Site (Before): WeLovePainting.COM (http://www.WeLovePainting.COM)
Mobilized (After): WeLovePainting.MOBI (http://welovepainting.mobi/)

Notice the phone number at the top of the mobilized version and how the L&F is preserved. And this is done on-the-fly!

What's great about this example is that it shows the benefits and limits of the service. It's a big plus for business owners to simply reg a mobi and plug into this service and be instantly mobi-lized. But it also shows how a truly designed-for-mobile website can be so much better than the auto-converted version (notice for example the color visualizer doesn't work on the mobile version, but still it's so much better than nothing).

Hats off and congratulations to mTLD for leveraging their technology to drive small business adoption of .mobi domains! (Doesn't work with m-dot BTW )

single best thing thing mobi have done, but they need to now start spending some of their cash on ADVERTISING, and advertise mobi and mowser, in all advertising realms imho

before people mowser mobi thier sites, they can always use www.pred.mobi

so if you go to www.mowser.com (http://www.mowser.com) / or .mobi its a glorified search engine

how do the public find out about what it actually does and how to implement ?

as they wont find mobiforge either or think to click little links at top of mowser homepage. are the businesses meant to discover ready.mobi and associated link??? :dontknow:

what will be their possible promotion do you think and how will they make as easy as 123 to explain everything

Another example of DotMobi thinking and working in directions unimagined on this forum. There are some very smart people on this forum, but the pressures on and interests of DotMobi are not always the same.

This certainly is a great move for the extension, from all points of view, and a sign that DotMobi is progressing.

A side note:

..... dotMobi is backed by leading mobile operators, network & device manufacturers, and Internet content providers, including Ericsson, GSM Association, Hutchison 3, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM, Visa and Vodafone. .....
Again, Google is not included.

from Eurodns:

The implementation is free for the first yearand IM gives an Instant mobile web presence with no development effort.

Interesting implications -does it become a subscription based service after a year?

This will certainly lead to more .mobi sites....I'm wondering if it will lead to more or less development of sites specifically made for mobile.
