Every once in a while, I hear from a domain investor who registered .mobi names during our landrush, thinking they would "flip" them in the short-to-medium term without needing to develop them.

I'm interested in this question. I think you have to promote your brand whatever it is, and not only a dot mobi. What's the point of having a dot mobi if you don't have the .com ?

Well, what's the point in having the dotcom if you don't have your country code? why bother with the dotcom if you can't get the dotorg, why have the dotinfo if you have the dotnet?

The dotcom question is irrelevant.. no-one needs the dotcom for anything.. dotmobi is (for) mobile... it tells the user that the site is compliant for their use on the go.. no end of auto-detects / diverts / redirects or compliant sites on other extensions can assure the user the same way... because the dotmobi is a trustmark for mobile compliance.. you know BEFORE you type in the address... whereas even if a dotcom site has a mobile redirect etc.. it's still a leap of faith because you won't know until you get there.. no matter how good the site is.. dotmobi is the sign on the door before you open the door... with all other solutions you must open the door to see what's inside.. whether what's inside is what you want or not..

put it another way; I prefer to open a tin of soup that has a label on the outside telling me what's inside.. not open loads of blank tins until I find the soup! :rolleyes2:
