Interesting that they end in the (relatively) early morning time on the east coast--probably not great for west coast bidders, but I guess it has to end at a bad time for somewhere in the world...

Amen to that!! I look at this as an opportunity for deep pocket buyers to get some generics that they missed out on as a .com. For example, how many banks wish they had loans.com? I'm guessing all of them. For the loans.mobi auction, I would think that BofA would be there to protect it's .com, and CIT, GECC, UBS, DB, etc. would all want it as well. Since each of those banks has a market cap in excess of the GNP of a small country, there is a lot of potential.

I asked my mTLD contact about the awareness/marketing angle, and it sounds like the big players and the logical buyers are being contacted, but she also told me that if we wanted to pitch in and help get the word out, we should go right ahead. I guess it would kind of be like Operation City Blitz, but instead of us contacting local government officials about a city mobi, we would be contacting potential end users of these 100 domains to let them know about the opportunity to participate in the auction. There's not a lot of time left, but if any of you want to spread the word, please do!! I'm going to look over the list and see if I can come up with a few potential buyers for some of the names, and shoot them a link to the mTLD announcement.

Going forward, we might have a little more advance notice of the names to be auctioned, and perhaps this could be a bit more structured. Regardless, I can't wait to see what happens at this first one!!

That was what I thought a few months ago too... I implemented some Sedo links on dotMobiz.

I referred thousands (!) of visits. But my commission thus far is $ 3.00 :y:

I spoke my Sedo Country Manager recently and she told me it is only for referring NEW users. Referrals of existing users doesn't pay off

Thanks!! I'm happy to do it, and as much as we know about and love mobi, there are thousands of potential buyers out there that aren't mobi-aware and need to be informed!! I sent out a few more e-mails to the .com owners of the First 100 Premiums this morning.

One other thing that struck me as a good idea is contacting the competitors of the .com owners as well. For example, Select Comfort (the sleep number people) owns beds.com. I bet Sealy, Serta and the other big players in the bedding industry would love to have that domain, but it was regged back in 1995. Getting beds.mobi is their chance to make some headway into the generic keyword market. The buyer will own that domain forever and will be linked to that category and keyword in search engines and in public perception--a huge advantage.

I'll be sending competitors similar e-mails to let them know how they can get beds.mobi--all they have to do is open their wallet!! It's great to have an interested bidder at an auction, but that pales in comparison to having two or three!!

Andres, I just thought of something--I'm sending e-mails to potential bidders, and now that the auction has started I'm giving them a link directly to the Sedo auction page for their particular domain. The link has mobility's partner id (34301), so does that mean that if one of them bids through that link and wins, mobility gets paid?

MMGreat work!! We only earn money as affiliates if they're new to Sedo, create a new account via that link, then bid on a name, and win. Stijn apparently didn't have much luck when he did something similar at DotMobiz.com because many people already have a Sedo account, so I'm not expecting much, but any amount we make, no matter how small, can help cover costs. This event is going to be huge. For the first time, EVERYONE has EQUAL access to the auction of these premium .mobi's. This isn't T.R.A.F.F.I.C., it isn't the landrush first-come, first-served, this is the world vs. the world, companies and individuals, battling it out with no holds barred for names that have sold for 7-figures as .com's in a new, exciting extension that is no longer a dubious rookie.

The playing field has been leveled, highest bidder takes all.

Sedo doesnt even list .mobi at the top of the extensions in premium when i mean really...lets face it, it is isnt it, it sure should be if it isnt in their eyes it will be. They havent even put any of the domains that are .mobi up on the front page fom this event, i spose or hope they will as the auction goes on, but common sence says lets get behind this and show them on the front page so more people are aware of these .mobi that are auctioning. DUH im going to moniker.com as they got back to me immediately almost with regards to my domains.

Good news--this morning there are bids being made on the higher priced premiums that still have not hit reserve. The "good news" part about that is these bids are higher than the low end of the reserve range. Anyone can bid up a name to $50 less than the low end of the reserve, but these new bids are being made by people who (presumably) understand that each bid they make might knock the reserve out. So to me, they come across as "real" bids (not to say that any of the below-reserve bids weren't made in good faith).

Also last night I had an e-mail exchange with a .com owner of one of the mobis in the top 10 (measured by price). This particular mobi has not yet hit reserve, but hopefully these guys get involved and it does. I'll certainly be watching that one!!

Finding the reserve is about the only reason I will bid early.
