hi everyone.... just happened to stumble across this site, is great to see many like minded people...

little about me - i created i guess what people call the first dot mobi site using joomla... lmpoker.mobi - ive seen some references to it on here :)

i have seen other dot mobi sites using joomla although i still havent seen anyone using accesskeys within the structure for navigation which i personally think is an essential part to any mobi site...

a lot of things have happened since then and i have been very active behind the scenes working on joomla/seo/dot mobi projects

notably presenting a joomla seo session with johan jennsens at the sem for smb in austin last week

anyway i just wanted to say hi and look forward to sharing some ideas with this great community

fyi - i am currently developing a native j1.5 dot mobi component and looking at the prospect of adding in an iphone version too :)

this is still in its infancy - allthough previous work on an early j1.5 dot mobi template override version was getting 85% and upwards on the mobility test :)

Welcome.

I am totally self taught on Joomla and am creating all my sites using Joomla.

Any tips, direction, pointers, links etc would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like (and from the look of your site) I can certainly learn a boatload!

thanks for the warm welcome! :)

currently i have a few projects to close out but in the coming weeks i will hopefully be able to spend a lot more time on here seeing what people need and hopefully be able to help/include it the release of the j1.5 component

give me a week or so and i will try and show you some pointers on how to overcome some of the major problems i faced and how to crank your joomla mobility scores upto level 5 :)

that component i am putting together should hopefully be as simple as plug and go :)

Hot damn! A component?!?

I am excited as heck already!

Been winging it as best I could. My highest score has been a measly 3.

A great precursor to what open source programming can potentially do for open source programming for mobile devices, ala Android.

Welcome. It would be great for all members if you can polish Gerry's tutorial to create a site in Joomla and/or make a new thread with all the info about Joomla in a single place?

You're doing good Gerry. Those Dancing With The Stars judges are just blind to your talent! Thanks Hawk!

They may score a three, but they all work wonderfully on any device.

Would love to improve on anything I can.

Welcome Redflame!

I've been hesitant to work with Joomla since the table structure is what is dragging down the mobile compliance score. As Gerry mentioned, you can't get over a 3/5 on ready.mobi with tables. You get two fails: one for using tables, and another for using tables for structure.

I've heard there is supposed to be a table-less version of Joomla that uses CSS for structure - do you know anything about that? Once that is resolved I would be happy to move away from wordpress. Gerry's sites are just right for me and the wordpress mobile plugin is good for blogs but kind of plain for anything else.

It's great to have you here. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Edit: Hold the phone - your signature site is 5/5 - You have my attention! I feel a development spree coming on after a few more of your posts....

As Gerry mentioned, you can't get over a 3/5 on ready.mobi with tables.

this is just not true you can easily score a 4/5 and iv said it before removing the tables in version 1.0.x is as easy as uploading a few new files from a8e.org

and a fresh install of 1.5 will give you a 5/5

i have a half assed site up joomobi.com that covers it and gives links to templates and plugins. (need to put some more work into the site)

RedFlame again welcome and your post over at the joomla org forum is what got me started using joomla for mobile ...without those few post i would have been lost in removing those darned tables.

Ben is correct on this. It is my method of site building and my version that is not scoring better.

Ben has offered to help me on this.

hey guys,

its been a long time since i posted - for those that dont know me im the guy who put together lmpoker.mobi using joomla under j1.0 and got it ranked with 5/5 - i had issues with j1.5 but i have a much better understanding of it right now and am pretty pumped about getting back in to it! :) now thats out the way...

i know i haven't contributed much to this forum period, ive been very busy in the development of other markets, areas, and put mobi development on a back burner since i couldnt get investors - over the past 6 months mobi marketing is getting a lot more attention especially now a number of self proclaimed so called internet marketing gurus have got on the bandwagon, its time for everyone whos got any mobi development experience to start making money... and when theres money to be made - onc things for sure ill be there! lol so am blowing the dust of all my previous development and research and actively going to be getting more involved again

i just bought an ipod touch yesterday to help me further with development, i am looking at developing a iphone type navigational site thats cross phone browser compatible using non other than my favorite script Joomla! :)

this will be without hacking main core features, looking at templating, possibly a component, modules and plugins - really what ever makes it the easiest for everyone to implement!

so any one whos interested let me know...

cheers

jay

I've had a play with joomla and was getting a bit frustrated looking for a decent mobile module, my site is http://BigApple.mobi
It needs a ton of work so its far from complete. If i can find a decent module then i'd spend more time on the site.
