Whilst the obvious purpose of .mobi is for mobile use there is an aspect of .mobi that is often overlooked. That is namely that .mobi does not confine itself solely to access from a mobile but is also fully accessible from PC's. This offers companies who were not able to secure a .com site the added bonus of being able to develop a site which can cater to both markets.
Just my 1and1/2cents worth.

Agree totally but with .mobi not being widely accepted as a mobile domain, it is hard to convince anyone that it is good for the PC.
This is something I tried to convey to this effort to push Global City TLD's (gcTLD's).
http://mobility.mobi/showthread.php?t=1467
Basically there is a group in New York, Germany, and France trying to convince the merchants of these cities that they need a domain .nyc, .ber, .par. Of course, the ones pushing this would be the registrars.
Their effort is aimed at immgrants and people wanted to start a business but can't reg the .com they want because, EGAD! its taken.
Finally, I had enough of the BS and asked if they presented the options...net, org, info, us AND mobi.
Lame rationale on their part. They tried pushing this through in 2001 but it flopped. Obviously it is picking up momentum thanks to ICANN lowering their fees and this group apparently banding with the group in Germany and Grance.
Buy you are so right...the .mobi can be both. WITH EASE!

i never forget this and when i show a .mobi (the one being developed) to a potential costumer one of the most important thing is to show this person that it works in both (cell and PC) and IF MY COSTUMER WANTS it can be like mobility.mobi (is seen different when u access from cells than when u access from PC)
it is being a hard job, but they have a good impression about that
