News Group Newspapers (NGN), the division of News International which publishes The Sun, has unveiled a new platform for advertisers which will include a mobile microsite.
‘Mobi-site' combines the newspaper and mobile platforms to create ‘smart ads’, which is a key word and text number that appears in the advert and enables readers to receive further information from the advertiser.
A WAP link will be sent to the reader which will then open a mobile internet page branded by the advertiser. The range of options available includes streaming video footage, mobile vouchers, a call-back option and data collection.
Mike Gordon, deputy managing director at NGN, said: “The option to add a mobi-site onto a newspaper advertising campaign is a positive way to engage readers and get them to interact with the brand. We are seeing a growing take-up of our own mobile content services and we are now passing this opportunity on to our advertisers.”
Mark Chippendale, media director at NGN, said: “Our decision to launch a mobi-site package is a great example of our commitment to lead the market in multi-platform advertising. We are offering our clients access to innovations which are not only at the forefront of technology but also easily accessible and attractive to the readers we reach.”
NGN, which also publishes News of the World, last year re-organised its advertising sales function into multi-platform hubs. The publisher now has advertising teams to cover print and digital platforms.
