Facebook, Netvibes and Meebo all launched new iPhone-optimized versions of their sites this week, and all three of them are very nice. But wasn’t one of the promises of the iPhone that it offered “a real web browser?” If that's so, why all the iPhone-optimized sites? And why are these sites being optimized for the iPhone specifically and not just “mobile optimized?”
The iPhone is Internet Explorer 4 all over again.....

yes, interesting perspective reading some of the comments on both sites.. especially since none of them seem to know what .mobi is.

oh man this was hilarious.. i was laying there falling asleep and "late night with carson daily" is on tv.. apparently a re-run before the iphone came out.. anyway they just did an iphone spoof commercial that went someone like:
"this is how you turn it on.... this is the music you wont be able to transfer to your new iphone/ipod when its obsolete in 2 weeks.... this is the e-mail you can check while crashing your car.... these are photos of my nephew, i think hes gay.... this is the internet that is so tiny that you wont even be able to read it." (shows page of the new york times like on the real commercial)
hahahaha

I do not belief alot of site is going to follow the convention of specifically optimizing a site for a specific phone(Iphone).

actually you'll probably see many of them for at least a short while.. its just the mainstreams way of recognizing mobile optimized content looks better and is easier to use if done properly. only difference with the iphone is you have a bit of a larger screen to work with... but its still a small mobile device screen... i just compared it with the surface area of my 19" monitor and 24 iphones still fit onto it..
