Just heard on the radio just a few moments ago on the drive home from work that Bank of America is in talks with and expected to announce that they will become the Official Bank of the NFL!

This is monster MONSTER big news. The deal is expected to be between 9-10 million dollars per year.

This will put the Bank of America advertising campaign in each and every NFL stadium in the country as well as promotion for every broadcast game on television and the radio and most likely the internet.

I have little doubt that should this deal go through, and it most likely will, that Bank of America will heavily promote BofA.mobi. Why? First, because no one else can call themselves the Official Bank of the NFL. Secondly, because no one else can call themselves this and we have already seen that BofA is a leader, not a follower. If they do anything it is market themselves on a grand scale and the products and services they offer. And no other real corporation in America has promoted their mobi site as much as BofA. They know their market, they know the generation they are after, and they know that no one else out there is doing this.

We have already seen the promotional materials on their web site and with the Olympic sponsorship commercial.

So, ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL! HOW ABOUT SOME MOBI-BALL!

Keep in mind that the NFL may be American Football, but the games are broadcast via satellite globally.

I have this funny (and fun) feeling that .mobi is about to be put on the map. I have not been able to find any official press releases that they are even in talks so be looking out for some news on this front in the next couple of days as the exhibition season starts winding down.

OH HELL! JUST FOUND IT! IT'S ON REUTERS!!!

NEW YORK, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Bank of America Corp (BAC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) wants to add customers who are ready for some football.

The second-largest U.S. bank plans on Thursday to announce a sponsorship making it the National Football League's first official bank ahead of the start of its 2007 season next month. The three-year sponsorship runs through the 2009 season.

"The NFL has the most avid fans of any American sport, with 120 million fans across the U.S.," Susan Faulkner, a Bank of America deposit and debit executive, said in an interview.

Bank of America is already the official bank of Major League Baseball and NASCAR stock-car racing.

The launch comes as the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank prepares to complete its $21 billion purchase of LaSalle Bank Corp from ABN AMRO Holding NV (AAH.AS: Quote, Profile, Research).

That acquisition will cause Bank of America to bump up against a 10 percent federal cap on deposits, though it may exceed that cap if the growth is not through an acquisition.

Bank of America is using the NFL sponsorship to expand in "affinity" marketing, a specialty developed a quarter-century ago by MBNA Corp, which the bank bought last year.

Affinity credit card holders accrue points through cards imprinted with organizations such as sports teams, charities or universities. Bank of America last year created "affinity banking," offering special rates on some accounts and imprinting logos on checks and statements.

The bank said it already has affinity credit cards with all 32 NFL teams. It plans on Thursday to launch check cards and checks for four: the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Washington Redskins. Faulkner said the bank would seek similar tie-ups with more teams.
