we all want to know what google is going to do.

this comment seems insightful..

"A couple of weeks ago many blogs and news sites were reporting that Google was getting ready to launch a Google phone. People were posting pictures of it and listing its features and the partnerships involved etc. According to a report by Bloomberg, however, there is no Google phone (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=auF7zPU6Je7c&refer=home), only Google software and mobile applications that some phones will use. A shame as I bet a low cost Google branded phone would do very well. Google recently updated its mobile search (http://www.google.com/m?uipref=3&output=xhtml&source=mobileproducts). The sites in the search results are automatically reformatted to work on a mobile phone. Many people in the domain forums have been wondering if Google intends on branding its mobile search site as Google.mobi being that they are one of the dotmobi investors. Should be interesting watching what happens with regards to that."

the Mobile Contact Form identified my desktop as a mobile device as Nokia N73.

I left feedback, stating that i was using my HP desktop and asking for info on the future use of google.mobi

autoresponse as follows:

Thanks for your message. While we can't promise a personal reply, please be assured we'll keep your feedback in mind as we work to improve Google Mobile.

google also includes this on their mobile faq

I have a phone that can view HTML pages. How can I access Google News?
If you have a PDA, smartphone or any other phone that can view HTML pages, you can browse the full HTML version of Google News by accessing http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en (http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en)

I don't like how my page is displayed on my phone. What can I do?
We automatically transcode non-mobile sites to fit on a mobile screen. You can choose to not have your page transcoded at all by sending us a removal request. We're always looking for new ideas on improving the way our pages are displayed on mobile devices, and we'd love to hear your suggestions.

I had a strange experience with Google mobile this morning. I live in Canada and went to google.com on my Blackberry 8700, and to my surprise the previous Google mobile search appeared (with the option to choose between web or mobile results). This version was replaced a while ago with a version which seems to show ONLY web results and excludes mobile results. I was quite excited for a while, thinking they had decided that their previous version was actually better and more relevant to people searching on mobile devices. Then, about 15mins later, the older version disappeared and was replaced with the newer version. Now, at google.com, only the newer version appears on my Blackberry, although my wife's RAZR still shows the older version?!!!
Did anyone else experience this?

Sean from Google - do you know what may have happened here?

I know that the older version is still used outside N. America. Maybe some wires were crossed somewhere and the older version was displayed by mistake. Anyway, it was refreshing to be able to search through results which were actually designed and formatted for my mobile device, as opposed to re-rendered full web pages.

I know Sean said in a previous thread that the next version of Google mobile would have some sort of ability to show mobile results. Does anyone know any more about this or when it is due for release? Sean?

BTW going to google.ca on my Blackberry brings up the older version - I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case before. This is a good place to go to check the mobile search ranking of your mobile sites outside of google.com mobile, and hopefully a good indication of mobile search ranking in the next version of google.com mobile.

I think a "google phone" would be a bad move on their part. If I were google, I'd rather have our software running on as many phones out there.

I think the rumors are false anyways..
