we all want to know what google is going to do.
this comment seems insightful..
"A couple of weeks ago many blogs and news sites were reporting that Google was getting ready to launch a Google phone. People were posting pictures of it and listing its features and the partnerships involved etc. According to a report by Bloomberg, however, there is no Google phone (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=auF7zPU6Je7c&refer=home), only Google software and mobile applications that some phones will use. A shame as I bet a low cost Google branded phone would do very well. Google recently updated its mobile search (http://www.google.com/m?uipref=3&output=xhtml&source=mobileproducts). The sites in the search results are automatically reformatted to work on a mobile phone. Many people in the domain forums have been wondering if Google intends on branding its mobile search site as Google.mobi being that they are one of the dotmobi investors. Should be interesting watching what happens with regards to that."

google also includes this on their mobile faq
I have a phone that can view HTML pages. How can I access Google News?
If you have a PDA, smartphone or any other phone that can view HTML pages, you can browse the full HTML version of Google News by accessing http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en (http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en)
I don't like how my page is displayed on my phone. What can I do?
We automatically transcode non-mobile sites to fit on a mobile screen. You can choose to not have your page transcoded at all by sending us a removal request. We're always looking for new ideas on improving the way our pages are displayed on mobile devices, and we'd love to hear your suggestions.
