View Full Version : Happening and other events Update

Hi everyone,
I'd like to update Mobility members on the latest dotMobi Happening news.
Feedback we received from the first four Happenings indicated that some folks would like to learn more about mobile marketing and development in a formalized setting. We've also had interest from the agency and developer communities outside of Mobility---so to that end we've morphed the Happenings into what I'll unofficially call "dotMobi Thinking" events.
To be clear these will be learning events geared to those with a strong and demonstrated interest in mobile marketing and/or development, with an opportunity to socialize with dotMobi personnel and others at the beginning or end. Space for each event will be limited and by invitation only.
CITY: San Francisco
DATE: Thursday, May 29th, 2008
TIME: 4 PM
LOCATION: Hotel Palomar
SUBJECT: Avoiding the Top Ten Mistakes in Mobile Marketing with special guest Tina Unterlaender from AKQA Mobile.
Late afternoon and early evening event geared to brands, agencies and marketers looking to understand the pleasures and possibilities of going mobile while avoiding the ten top mistakes we've seen when brands go online. The event will cover a variety of other topics including agency and brand case studies. After the event there will be complimentary cocktails and light hors d'oueveres and one-one-one conversation. Amy Mischler, our VP of Marketing will be at this event as well.
WANT TO ATTEND? - Register your interest no later than Tuesday, May 27, via the form at http://mtld.mobi/node/1036 (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0011fcC0qu-dQTKYzseOXbJ272EnKrJrR_CLkt6ZvI-n3lSDUGYG-y3WbXJXqUbxuSdHTf0QsW_x1CfEUjjdn5L1182wTLXOhZBXCgY OpSK4-gexzyiAUWK5w==).
CITY: Menlo Park, California
DATE: Friday, May 30th, 2008
TIME: 9 AM to Noon
LOCATION: Stanford Park Hotel
SUBJECT: Learn to Build Device-Aware Mobile Content.
Morning event geared for developers and site owners looking to understand how to build mobile content that will work on the widest variety of handsets while addressing the needs of specific mobile devices like the iPhone, the Kindle and Nintendo DS. Meet Paul Nerger, our VP of Advanced Services and Applications at dotMobi and learn the easiest ways to build cross-platform, device-aware mobile content and learn about the wealth of free resources that the dotMobi developer forum makes available to the mobile development community. This completely free event will cover a variety of topics, including development tools, reference guides, training and certification.
Before the event we'll have a light breakfast so you can roll right out of bed and straight to the Stanford Park Hotel.
WANT TO ATTEND? - Register your interest no later than later than Wednesday, May 28, via the form at http://mtld.mobi/node/1038 (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0015XM_UdTHYokgmDeqyMgir86GI65IElpYAlPQsH CaWtyklikZ22m0reGhVSrslkBQSHxwlFtv1sOX9-FDiv5oJwW3xJrkqoWp7pLWpuYLws7qCD3W0tXwmA==).
Additionally we are planning similar events in New York City on Thursday, June 12th and in London on Thursday, June 26th. I plan on attending those events, but do not expect to be at the Bay Area and Silicon Valley events next week. More information will be made available once I have the details set.
Additionally for those of you in Europe or planning to be in Paris next month, dotMobi will be sponsoring a lunch during the DomainerMeeting event just before the ICANN meeting in Paris. Additionally I will be speaking at that event on Thursday, June 20th. You can get further details at the DomainerMeeting site.
I hope to see some Mobility members at some of these events!
Thanks,
Pinky

nooooo, Mr. Brand, a while ago you told me early June and I booked a trip to Tahoe for the last week of May.
A happy wife and cancellation fees trumps meeting my mobi friends.
Looks like a great pair of events, very sorry I can't be there.

What a bummer. Originally we were thinking early June but dates just did not work out. Sorry we'll miss you. However next time I'm in the Bay Area I'll give fair warning so those interested can getogether for a beer and we can talk.

I'm about 95% certain at this point we will have events on June 12 in NYC at the Westin (and on June 26th in London at The Hospital Club) as mentioned on our blog as my travel and hotel have already been booked for those dates. Stay tuned to our blog for links to register your interest in attending those events.

Just to be clear there will be separate tracks/times/dates in some cases for developer-focused sessions vs. brand/agency/marketing-focused sessions. More info on the developer-focused sessions is written by our Paul Nerger on the dev.mobi blog at http://dev.mobi/blog/devmobi-going-tour .
Thanks,

Waiting on that stellar event in Stanleyville/Rural Hall, North Carolina.
We have a Bojangles and a Red Roof Inn.
Seriously, anything looking forward to perhaps the Charlotte, NC area?
This is home to Bank of America, among other national and international lending institutions, the NBA Charlotte Bobcats, NFL Panthers, Wachovia, US Air hub, US Olympic Kayak/Canoe Paddling training center, and more.
I think it is one thing to sell .mobi to domainers. But selling the concept to businesses is the biggie here. And with the track record of BofA.mobi this would simply underscore the cause.

I suggest a Mobi happening at the Ger homestead -- with kayak paddles and banjos and moonshine ----- let me know, I'll foot the bourbon/Irish whiskey bill - you supply the rainbow trout

Excellent news!
Pinky, in the future, would it be possible to have confirmations further in advance? Some of us would like to travel to other cities, and it takes more than 10 days to get a decent airfare and hotel rates - usually 14 days up to 30. Thanks for considering it.

Same here..... I'm only 320miles from London.... but in the UK that's considered a 'long way' (I jest because I know our American Cousins have to drive that far to see the neighbours sometimes ;-)
But 28 days notice would be fab, 21 cool, 14 ok I suppose... but less could be awkward.... travel / hotels / work etc..
Looking forward to the London Meet!

Dear Pinky,
are there any dotMobi Happening in germany?
We started with a portfolio of about 1.000 dotMobi domains and sure we have been very motivated to start with many mobile business ideas .. but sorry ... there was no support of dotMobi at all to help us in germany.
Now we are looking for a helping hand; some cooperation partners or we have to sell all dotMobi domains. (http://www.memodomains.com/portfolio/Mobi)
In germany we got an own TV station and a newspeaper company too, but we need some german speeking support to make our visions of dotMobi come true.
Thank you
