I want to keep track of all the large, multi-national companies and brands that have launched their .mobi (if they use their .mobi to forward to another domain, then they must be advertising their .mobi site to be included), and categorize them by industry to organize it better. After all, these large companies have the power to make .mobi mainstream by simply advertising their .mobi site to their millions of customers.

I'll start the list and will edit it as it grows. Let's try to stick to very large, well-known corporations and important organizations that most people know.

Incredible list. I spent alot of time in there looking.

I would like to see more on the list actually using the .mobi rather than redirects. Time will tell.

There were some surprises on there. Ferrari.mobi. Big whoop, I thought. How many people can afford a Ferrari.

Then it hit me with the Formula 1 racing network. One good ad or sponsor or even signage at a race with .mobi could be huge. F1 is so international and perhaps gets as much coverage globally during it's season as does soccer (football).

So GO FERRARI GO!

However, I'm only interested in listing .mobi's from well-known companies that either 1) do not redirect to another TLD or 2) if they do redirect, the company is promoting the .mobi address. Anything else will be considered solely a "defensive registration" by a company, which I'm not interested in.

For example, Cisco has their .mobi. But if you go to their .mobi, it redirects to a .com. However, I did a google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Acisco.com+cisco.mobi) for "cisco.mobi" within Cisco's .com site (Google: site:cisco.com cisco.mobi) and found a mention (http://www.cisco.com/web/CN/aboutcisco/mobile/mobile.html) of Cisco.mobi/cn. That was good enough for me.

Do you know which ones on your list fit this criteria? Let me know and I'll categorize them and add them to my list.

A great plug on CNBC regarding banks and the mobile internet. The old new is it specifically mentions BofA.mobi (which is still GREAT news to be run on CNBC) and the new news is it is the first time I have ever seen mention of WACHOVIA.MOBI.

However, the Wachovia.mobi is a redirect to what appears to be a mobile looking site. I still consider this good news as helping to get the brand awareness going. Thinking outside a domainers perspective, if i am an ordinary citizen and I am told to go to Wachovia.mobi, how many are going to look at the URL? If they land on the right page, that is all that really matters.

So, it is good news on two fronts (mentioning wachovia.mobi and actually using wachovia.mobi) but no so good new on the redirect. But I think we're getting there. These giants will help brand the extension and these stories will help pass it along to the people on the street.

I want my boy Michael (Boca Vision) to remember the Monday Morning boardroom meeting scenario at Wachovia. He'll get a big chuckle out of this.

Of my nearly 350+ mobis, only a few are developed.

The rest are parked.

When you type in the domain, you will go to the parked page. The parked page is 5/5 mobi compliant. All the ads are a redirect to a dot com site. Why is that you ask?

The rest of the world has not caught up to .mobi yet.

In time, I would like to have all my mobi's up and running as sites.

So why is Wachovia redirected?

Let's use the same old worn out argument that mobi is a failure and all they are doing is protecting their brand.

To me, this is big as it is a global enterprise and technology that encompasses durable goods, valuables, perishables, etc. It is used as a means of security, anti-theft, tracking, anti piracy and counterfeiting, and national security. UPS, DHL, FedEX, and all the others are using this technology.

I'm trying to limit the list to well-known, international companies and brands rather than country-specific ones. I don't think many people outside the UK have heard about "News of the World" and "Halifax Building Society". I made an exception with The Sun because it has the highest circulation of any daily English-language newspaper in the world.

As you can imagine, if I were to add the .mobi of every locally-well-known company, I think the list would get too cluttered and lose its appeal. One of the points of this list is to have something readily available to show someone anywhere in the world the rapid and active adoption of .mobi's by company's they will have no-doubt heard of before.

Having said all of that, keep those suggestions coming!

It doesn't seem to be the case with Travelocity.mobi as it was (http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Copy/News_Release_Page&c=am2Copy&cid=1178240116611&ssid=180) with Amtrak.mobi, so it's not yet possible to prove that the registration was indeed not a defensive one. This sort of quality control ensures the list is kept clean so that no one, especially naysayers, can deny the proactive adoption of .mobi by the well-known companies on it.

A mobile website hosted on a .mobi shows clear intent and effort to actually make proper use of the .mobi, so it's obviously a much easier case to make.

.Thanks Chris, but ANZ.mobi doesn't seem to be loading. When I saw it a few weeks ago it was not really a developed .mobi site, it was just a copy of their .com on their .mobi and it scores a 1/5 on Ready.mobi. Also, although it is a very well known in Oceania, it's not an internationally-well-known Bank like Citigroup, HSBC, etc, that anyone from anywhere would recognize, so even if their .mobi was developed properly for mobile phones, it probably wouldn't belong on this list.

Having said that, I know how big ANZ is in Australia and lived right next to their Sydney building in Martin Place a few years back, so it's very encouraging to see them at least do *something* on their .mobi and I hope more of the Big 4 Aussie banks follow suit.

Well, yes and no. First Interstate Bank was a large bank headquartered in California, 8th largest in the US at the time it merged with Wells Fargo. Apparently now that name is only used in the 3 states you mentioned. I want to keep track of all the large, multi-national companies and brands that have launched their .mobi (if they use their .mobi to forward to another domain, then they must be advertising their .mobi site to be included), and categorize them by industry to organize it better. After all, these large companies have the power to make .mobi mainstream by simply advertising their .mobi site to their millions of customers.

I'll start the list and will edit it as it grows. Let's try to stick to very large, well-known corporations and important organizations that most people know.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if mTLD themselves administer Smirnoff.mobi considering all the promotions they ran for the site (and how quickly this got fixed), although they probably just sent out a quick e-mail to the Smirnoff devs. It still shows a serious and disconcerting level of neglect for a site that was heavily promoted by mTLD a few hears back. Every single page of the site indexed on Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Asmirnoff.mobi) gives me a 404 error. This is not the first time this site has had problems, but regardless, it's active now, so I'm putting it back on the list.

There is now a lot more usage of .mobi by large corps than there was when this list was first created several years ago.

In 5 years we have gone from 0 domains to the list above.

On this new list you can see a few sectors are very pro-.mobi
Airlines, car rentals, and Hotels, each of these sectors include most of the big players.

Unfortunately I also found a great many squatted names, primarily by Chinese domineers. It would be great if those people can try to get their names to the rightful owners!

If so, then the companies are clearly embracing .mobi and I'll definitely add them to my list. Otherwise, they are just defensive registrations that mean very little.

They are all live and being used, some stand alone, some redirects. I have no idea about advertising, but let's not raise the bar too high. I think usage is a good enough benchmark... meaning traffic is potentially arriving at a mobile site via a .mobi. Usage is indicative of awareness as much as advertising. Advertising might generate more traffic or might not.

Remember the actual destination URL that the user ends up at on a mobile device is typically not clearly visible to the user, what they type in is more evident. In the absence of much data about the TLD, this list is just another indicator of awareness and trend, it needs to be taken in the context of other factors, such as growing zone file, growing traffic to all .mobi sites etc.

I would assume that most of these names were TM registrations during Sunrise, so if they were not found or live in earlier scans by everyone on this thread, then that suggests that these were deliberately activated after laying unused. Also, the number of live sites is a smaller subset of all the TM sunrise names. The majority of those names are still sitting unused... they are the real defensive regs.

It seems that the list is growing not shrinking at least.

If the site is redirecting the .mobi to a .com AND they are not advertising the .mobi, then it is completely meaningless because the user will never be exposed to the .mobi. Most Average Joe's still have no clue what .mobi even is, so if they're not being exposed to it either through advertising or in the URL of their mobile browsers, then they're going to continue to be oblivious to it.

I've had to remove some very high-profile .mobi's from that list (including a couple from the backers (http://mobility.mobi/showthread.php?53008-Original-.mobi-backers-now-giving-up-on-the-extension-as-well...&)) because they resulted in dead-ends after having been live for a while. To give you an idea, have a quick look here (http://why.mobi/brands.php) (that page hasn't been updated in a while), and you'll find a few dead ends. Those all used to be live, mobile sites.

I've only been adding sites to my list that met one of those two criteria (stand-alone .mobi or advertised as the .mobi), so I wouldn't automatically assume those are all new, unless they all happen to fit that criteria (something that really needs to be checked).OK, you're really going to have to check that list because I just looked at a few that are on your list but not on mine and they not only redirect to a .com, but they don't even display a mobile site when viewed on a mobile phone. For example, have a quick look at Gucci.mobi (http://Gucci.mobi), HolidayInn.mobi (http://HolidayInn.mobi), and Nescafe.mobi (http://Nescafe.mobi).

This is exactly why we need to set the bar high. I've seen too many defensive regs that end up doing more harm than good. If the Trustmark were actually being enforced, those 3 sites I just mentioned (and many more like it) wouldn't be polluting the ecosystem.

I agree with Andres on the point of device detection being unreliable, which also means it's a better approach to have, for example, .mobi for mobile phone and .com for PC access. It's easier to remember when consumers see the advertising of this approach, IMHO.

Thanks acc, but they're using the .mobi to redirect mobile users to mobile.dollar.com, so it fails check #1. I understand they aren't redirecting when viewed from a PC, but that's pretty meaningless when you consider that they are showing you a full-blown site on a .mobi (not to mention that dollar.mobi doesn't even resolve, you need to include the www. in front).

All I can find for Dollar's mobile site on their .com site is this Press Release (http://www.dollar.com/AboutUs/PressRelease/Archive/2003/082903_1.aspx) mentioning mobile.dollar.com and this Press Release (http://www.dollar.com/AboutUs/PressRelease/061808_1.aspx) mentioning Dollar.com with an auto-redirect for mobiles. There is no mention of the .mobi anywhere that I can find. Also, when I Google "dollar rental cars mobile site", all I see is the mobile.dollar.com site. So they don't seem to be advertising the .mobi at all, which means it also fails check #2.

As such, to me, this clearly looks like another defensive registration.

I unfortunately don't have time to do that myself at the moment.

But after keeping that list for 4 years under the same strict criteria (to maintain credibility), I'm not about to soften the criteria. Let's be honest, these aren't exactly "tough" criteria, a site just either has to have a stand-alone .mobi site as their mobile version or they have to be promoting their .mobi site in at least one place. That's what I verified for each and every .mobi currently on that list.

Remember, the purpose of that list was never to point out every single registered .mobi by any company. I specifically started it to find the well-known companies that were fully embracing .mobi, as those could then be used to indisputably establish the proper adoption of the extension by big players, without any room for "noise" or potential criticism such as "you're including obvious defensive regs to make it seem better than it is" from naysayers. This isn't something new, either, it's been there since the beginning (re-read the bottom of the OP (http://mobility.mobi/showthread.php?10-Developed-.mobi-sites-from-well-known-companies.&p=19&viewfull=1#post19)):


I want to keep track of all the large, multi-national companies and brands that have launched their .mobi (if they use their .mobi to forward to another domain, then they must be advertising their .mobi site to be included), and categorize them by industry to organize it better. After all, these large companies have the power to make .mobi mainstream by simply advertising their .mobi site to their millions of customers.

I'll start the list and will edit it as it grows. Let's try to stick to very large, well-known corporations and important organizations that most people know.
