Hello and welcome to the internet's first forum for .mobi-owners by .mobi-owners.

Mobility.mobi was founded by the owners of the most valuable (http://dotmobiz.com/topportfolios.shtml) .mobi portfolios in the world to meet the growing demand for .mobi-specific discussion, information, networking, collaboration, and development. .mobi just isn't like other TLD's, and a lot of new development issues and paradigm shifts are involved that require .mobi to have more than just a simple "sub-forum" within a "sub-forum" at other domain forums. It needs and deserves its own full-fledged forum for all the new issues to be properly organized and discussed to ensure it is successful.

Since this is a pro-.mobi forum, this community openly accepts that there is a need for .mobi and that .mobi itself will be instrumental to the success and growth of the mobile internet. If you do not agree with these principles, please do not join our community.

Take advantage of the expertise this forum has to offer, make use of the Calendar feature to post .mobi-specific events, share knowledge and ideas with others, make new friends, help pioneer this new and exciting frontier together, and, most importantly, enjoy the ride.

Welcome aboard,
Andres Kello

P.S. This is a new forum and we want your feedback (http://www.mobility.mobi/forumdisplay.php?f=35) to make it great...expect a few things to change as we move forward.

TIP: Whenever you want to see all the latest posts from the entire forum, just lick on New Posts (http://mobility.mobi/search.php?do=getnew) on the NavBar at the top.

Andres, thanks for the invite to mobility.mobi. There are lots of places online with discussion about .mobi but I think a forum completely dedicated to the topic of .mobi is appropriate. Considering the small screen mobile medium and the .mobi coding standards, the topics of development, parking and monetization specific for .mobi will be especially useful.

Hi, my name is Gerry and I'm a MobiHolic

(crowd) Hi, Gerry!

I need help.

(crowd) HA HA HA HA HA!

Howdy...

I actually wanted to use my real name. You know me as Doc Com on DNF and circa1850 on NP.

I loathe forums and have avoided them like the plague. I joined those two last fall at the prompting of someone who felt like I could learn something, teach something, buy and sell domains.

I learned what I knew 10 years ago (same people giving same advice), I have taught a few people that I don't back down, and sales are a joke but I am buying.

I'm looking forward to being part of this group for what ever I can learn and contribute.

My limitations are going to be working 12 hour night shifts and lack of programming experience. But I think you all have seen that I can design the hell out of some graphics.

I think that to sell .mobi it needs to have relevant content as well as a nice package to make it visually appealing and memorable and content rich with features that the user needs and wants.

Hopefully my skills are going to grow. I am currently taking an online course for Fireworks 8.

So...

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...START YOUR MOBI'S!

Thanks for the invite Dave.

"For mobi-owners BY mobi-owners" I like the slogan :)

For me domaining was a way to clear my mind while dealing with (cough...crooked) lawyers, doctors and insurance companies (drunk driver ran a stopsign at 100 km/h in 2003). Loong story and a looong 3.5 years :) all ended early this year with a good outcome plus my family is alive and well and walking. I found DNF and NP's while doing some research on Deere.info (I was sent a letter by their lawyers). Ended up transferring it over to John Deere for what I payed for it at snap (60). But because of that I found an excellent way to waste eerrr I mean spend my time. Then I found .mobi at NP's and the rest is history.

Heres to kicking off a great forum....

thanks, gary-

This is a great forum you have here! I am sure .mobi will be a great success. I only started buying some Geo names last week and missed out on the best names, but nevertheless there are still some treasures to be found.

While looking up mountain locations I came across this one:

brokeback.mobi (Selling This - Any Interest?????????)

I don't lean towards that type of mountain, but it was available so I registered it. Theses other names were available so I registered them too:

Hillclimb.mobi (great for motorcyle events or clubs)
Chupacabra.mobi (mythical goat sucker)
Paddler.mobi (kayaking, canoeing, etc)
LakeLure.mobi (NC - big tourist location)
Northwoods.mobi
Gaspe.mobi (Big tourist site in Quebec)
Catamount.mobi (Just Google it and see the possibilities)
GreatDivide.mobi (Another Geo. name)
Fundy.mobi (Another Geo. name)
BayofFundy.mobi
Algoma.mobi (Geo.)
AlgonquinPark.mobi (Geo.)
Northerner.mobi (Lots of possibilities)
NorthernOntario.mobi
Purcell.mobi (Geo. Plus many more possibilities)
Temagami.mobi (Geo.)
Selkirk.mobi (Geo.)
Etc.

Im kinda lost for words as I have barely been here 5 minutes...i''l leave it at thankyou and go make an introduction and perhaps post my domains...don't know if i will make the most valuable portfolio as i only started registering .mobi 6 months ago....but im sure people will be surprised and even shocked at some of the domains i have found 150 or more...i also managed to secure them by going without a lot of things as im on a disability pension after 4 car write offs in the last 4 years....im pretty sure it was all worth IT! OH YEAH
ps i noticed you have a few names close to what i managed to secure a few months ago...ie ticketbook.mobi and ticketbookings.mobi must say i was quite happy and surprised when i saw they were there for me, as i was with many others.

Hi everyone,

WOW, this site is pretty cool. Hope to get mine there though probably not in the form of a forum. But hopefully a fraction of this useful.

I started with my first computer in 1980 (a timex sinclair 1000) and haven't really lost interest in them and what they have brought ever since, for more than a couple years here and there...

In the late 90s I became heavily involved in a startup that had potential, though the company and it's politics was great at burning out assets then throwing them to the curb for new and improved ones.. (in the end that co went up in smoke along with so many other DOT COM failures in the early 2000s).

Since then, most of what I have done was self employed, development, network administration, computer repair, computer security, and even a little online detective work. About 2005 I got frustrated working hard and being broke still, and got out of it even for a couple years. After 25 years, I needed a vaction. After a couple years writing and a year as a hospital security guard, well, that was all the vacation I needed :-D

I'm working on devloping my own site now: setjmp.mobi . Nothing happens by mistake and my old domains (setjmp.*) got bought up by someone before I could get them back earlier this year; though by then I was all into my phones anyways. (JavaME, WAP, SMS, etc).

.mobi is great! That burnout co back in the day was playing with phones, and the main reason I wasn't interested on that front, was their desire not to see some standardization that enabled a lot more feature in mobile computing and limited devices, rather they were focused on trying to make something they could have control and profit all over. I'm glad they failed. The old proprietary thang thang...

OK, I'd bet few have read this far, so I'll leave it with thanks for reading this far...

Sincerely,
Eric Allen Griff (setjmp)

Hi everyone,

My name is Caryl and I work in Melbourne Australia as a consultant primarily in education and training for those who want to learn about or embrace mobility in all its forms.

I spend a lot of time helping teachers understand the digital world so that they can prepare their material in such a way that it can work on mobile phones, wifi, PDAs and other handheld devices.

I found this site because I am putting together a mobile web quest and wanted some really interesting mobile sites to direct people to look at - any suggestions?

I shall look forward to joining in with this community now that I have found you.

Hi Everyone,

I am very excited about the endless possibilities of using .mobi what is the difference between .me and .mobi ?

Greetings Happy Realtor,

You might want to start a thread to introduce your self just so people get a chance to meet you here. We are always glad to see new members join :)

The big difference between Dot Me and Dot Mobi is Mobi is designate for mobile web design so that sites fit the screens on mobile phones, pages are made to load quickly on cell phones, and hopefully the information provided is more targeted to searches made mobiliy.

Dot Me is like the other extensions ie Dot Com etc in that it is a basic TLD aimed at the personal computer user market. Any site can have a mobile site version of it's main site but it is not mandated and at this time most don't focus on the needs of the mobile internet.

If you bring up Mobility.mobi on your cell phone you will see that the site loads quickly and is easier to navigate in your phone than other non mobile sites. Any domain can be made to produce results tailored to the type of device you are accessing however Dot Mobi mandates that sites built with Mobi names be designed to work well for mobile users but you can also have a Mobi site detect PC users and render a full screen site for those users.

I hope that helps. Anyhow welcome to Mobility. I suggest taking time to read and learn about Dot Mobi on this site and others if you are thinking about investing in domains. Although domain investing looks easy, developing sites and selling domain names is pretty difficult and should be given the same respect you would give in considering entering any kind of business.

Ask lot's of questions as forum users try to help each other learn and grow in their efforts.

Hope to see you around here :)

Best wishes,

C..T.

it's a cctld, so its a country extension for montenegro. it won't rank well outside the country unless it has a great site and seo etc. the main appeal is it's brandable as obviously 'me' or hacks. ie. meet.me etc.

its quite cute, but i have 3 and thats 2 too many if you know what i mean. its had some good sales and is better than the ghastly .asia but up to you.

more reading here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.me

basically for .mobi, go explore the forum and read, read , read. there is more info and links here than anywhere else. now go and read for 3 weeks, im not joking, and come back when you have learned some stuff

dont reg anything until you have done this.

btw, hi

Hello,

Thank you for the advise. What I am trying to accomplish is building websites to generate internet leads for my company. IT seemed a great idea to use the .me and the.mobi. Do these sites get good rankings with the search engines? I understand the mobi is for cell phones and .me is like an extenstion or another type of domain name

well, .me offers an opportunity for a startup imo , brandable new etc, doesnt really go with a company that already has a .co.uk say

however companies that have a .com site, or .co.uk etc are finding they need a mobile site and that offers a great opportunity for a new branding tool that compliments their existing site and taps into all that new mobile traffic.
step up .mobi.

also if you are a start up, your .mobi site can be a fullblown site on a pc and a mobile site on mobile, 2 for 1 if you like.
whats more you can more often than not, handreg the mobi or pick up for a reasonable sum, whereas the .com maybe unobtainable or cost the earth, literally.

btw, welcome to the forum. anymore advice and it's $150 an hour, but you do get hot towels with that

Hey!

Someone I know face to face, it aint a pretty face but it's good to see you here!

LOL

Folks - Simon taught me a few things about WML in the early days, pretty much he helped me build my first WAP site years n years ago, since then there's been no looking back.

Simon's inviting people to exchange links on this post http://mobility.mobi/showthread.php?t=30112 as Tesco say every little helps so get over there!

Many of you are wondering about the cost of mobile marketing, but I can assure you that mobile marketing campaign is going to be cheaper than any other marketing campaign. Your investment in mobile marketing campaign will not go without worth it and important thing about mobile marketing is that you can reach your customer on their go and you can ad your products anytime you want.
Mobile marketing lets you know the customer's view about the product instantly and it overcomes all those limitations those are posed by other media of advertisement for example should you are running an online marketing campaign you will have to wait for the customer to visit your website and then your ad, besides this you cannot expect your consumer to stay online throughout the day but with mobiles thereis no such limitations, a person's mobile always remain connected and you can catch them weherever they are.
to know about details of mobile marketing you can visit these three following links:

All of these three are mobile website builders and mobile marketing solutions provider
hope you will be benefitted out of these

Hi,

I'm trying to get "a few posts" under my belt, so I can post (links) concerning the forthcoming ImMediaTe Mobile Gaming Summit, a free EU-sponsored International Conference, Showcase and Matchmaking Event that will be held in St. Julian's Malta on Nov. 3-5, 2010.

Look it up on Google as "Mobile Gaming Summit"

Cheers!
